Thread: Home Item Limit Increase or Make Items in Storage Containers Not Count Toward Total Home Inventory

Interior decorating is becoming a more complicated and creative profession. Constructing unique in-home items out of existing game items quickly uses up inventory space in homes. Additionally, as an Artisan of several professions, I require a significant variety of resources nearby... I should be able to craft and have access to my resource inventory from inside the same heavily decorated home which is my residence.

In the real world, I own an average size home and have a lot more than 200-400 things in it... especially in cabinets, closets, etc.

My suggestion is to either significantly increase the item limits on homes, allow items in storage containers to not count toward total home inventory, or a combination of the two (i.e., a small to moderate increase in item limits and non-inventory items in containers). Truly, what is the point of having a home decor storage container like a chest or armoire when I could fill four to six of them up each with 50 items and already hit the max number of allowable items in my home?

I have seen numerous posts regarding increasing the item limit houses again. I have not seen anyposts regarding non-inventory items in containers. I also have not seen any response from the developers on this topic since it was resurrected by the community a few months ago. It would be nice to know their intent in this area.

Regards...

I would only agree, if this would be handled via some kind of "house expansions" taking up lots.
Would not mind to loose one lot per 100 Items

I agree. Especiallywhen it comes toMedium Houses. Kinda weird that they only hold as many items as a Small House does. Even an increase of 50 for Mediums would make me really happy.

They should at least increase the capacity of the houses, between people designing inside there house/structures and others that like to collect items you can easily exceed the limit of a house very quickly, the problem with expanding or taking up lots you have players that no longer play that live around you, you cannot expand because there so manycondemmed houses and harvesters that are around the space is unavailable they would need to fix that before anything else.

Th biggest problem I have is that every expansion gives us tons of new loot. But....we get no additional storage space for these items !!!!!!

I also agree with the last part of your comments. While I am not mayor of a player city, we are experiencing the condemned structure issue in the city in whichI live, and I've recently read countless posts referring to the same problem and the unsightly mess it's creating in player cities. I think the devs could implement one of several soutions (in no particular order of preference)...

1.) Return to the old system where your house and contents are demolished when the maintenance pool runs out.

2.) Auto-pack-up a home based on a specified period of account inactivity (devs would also have to fix the bug that is not freeing up the real estate footprint once a home is removed).

Personally, I think player city mayors should also have rights to remove condemned homes from the city grid; this step would result in an auto-packup of the person's home and return the packed house to said person's inventory. This could be managed by auto-granting house packing rights to the city mayor for any home structure placed within the confines of the city limits or through the city management terminal (i.e., a mayor could remove or ban an inactive resident from a city that would result in auto-packup of any structures that person has within the city limits).

Why does it need to take up lots? I'm talking about simple storage here. As a Master Architect, I do not find myself overly concerned with people not having to buy extra houses for storage... I really don't think that is a large part of our business. I simply need the ability to store resources and finished crafting goods that I'm not ready to put on my vendor(s). From the perspective of the perpetual looter, who is wanting to display items, I can also see the need for increased item limits, especially with all the new quest content and loot that is being created. I would suggest the housing lots and limits to look something like this...

Small House (1 Lot): 250 items

Medium House (2 Lots):500 items

Large House (4 Lots): 750

PA Hall (6 Lots): 1000 (or more... I mean come on... these things have a lot of space to decorate!)

This system makes smaller homes appropriate for newer players or those that aren't crafters or collectors. Lot usage appropriately increases with item limits, as opposed to small and medium homes each having the same item limit as they do now. The item limit and lot usage gap between a large house and a PA hall needs to be substantial so player cities don't become littered with PA Halls as homes (having that extra decorating/display ability becomes a choice ofgameplay style... "Do I stick with a large house to balance lot usage so I can use my additional lots for other things, or do I not care about lots and want a huge pimpin' pad to display all my cool shizzle?"). Larger limits on the PAs also allow player cities to have some really nice and unique halls for their city/guild.

In addition, I propose that while an unlimited number of containers (i.e., chests, cabinets, armoires, etc.) may be placed in a home, that only a specified number of them (say 10) would be allowed to actually hold items. Note, that this is strictly for storage purposes. Maybe I'ma multi-style combative that wear multiple types of armor and I want to store my unused ones in an armoire (I don't care about displaying them... I just want a place to store them without impacting the displayable amount of items I can put in my home). Same thing as an artisan... Say I put a workshop in my home, with separate cabinets in the workshop for Organic, Mineral, Chemical, Gas, and Component (i.e., fiberplast panels, clothing attachments, synthetic cloths) resources. I don't want a bunch of crates littering my home or taking up my item count, but I want my resources in my workshop where I have easy and quick access to them. Or maybe I'm a loot reseller and I simply need to store loot (not display it) for a time before making a run to my vendor or the local bazaar to put items up for sale.

This is a practical request that I don't believe would take a lot of effort on the part of the devs to implement. Devs: If I'm wrong about this, let me know. I'd appreciate any form of response on this topic so at least the community knows where the SOE devs stand on this topic and if they have any future plans for improvements.

I have three... and that is not a solution. The fact of the matter is that with the growing quantity of loot and items to store, the current home limits are again too small. Additionally, logic dictates that containers that can actually hold items are almost completely worthless if their contents count toward your home inventory. I stand by my request to the devs; I know others will as well.

The item limit is a game mechanism just like all caps in this game are.
I do not think, it should be changed as a "gift" so everyone has more storage room.
Just like one has to make some thinking how to create it's own template you also have to think about how many things you will put in your house.
The thought about taking up lots to expand an existing house was to have something within the mechanics.
At the moment I use factories as additional storage place, which works out quite fine for stuff, i do not need in my house. Per factory one can have 100 Items both in the input and output hopper.
I think a lot of storage probs could maybe solved in makeing more stuff stackable.
Alone the ressource loot for the village quests take up almost 400 units, which are hard to store.
