You should be able to build anywhere on a planet that allows you to build, POI or not. If they tried to go back on this, then in my opinion, there should be no Player-Controled-Cities at all.

I agree 100% from the first days of the game player structures should have been confined to the NPC cities and POI like outposts. If players would have had a chance to build houses inside coronet.....or Theed that would make one heck of a metropolitan city.

Looking back, I wish SOE would have let us build right up on the NPC cities. Given how many people chose to live just outside the no-buildzones, and still skipped PC cities, it would have been great.

THe lag would have been horrid however, and SOE would have had to fix bugs that allow a player city to control NPC functions (the fact that SOE would have had to fix bugs likley killed the idea alone)

There are obviously 3 types of SWG players..those that want to live in a PA run player-city, those who want to be urbanites and live in the big city, and those few who want to be hermits and not live near anyone or anything.

Honestly now, I think most folks PCs could handle whatever lag is generated by dropping the no build zones (especially if a player purge ever happens)

But it seems clear SOE is investing more in new candy-type quests than in infrasturcture for the players to use.

that is silly for one reason, cityban. what you do if someone butted their city up to theed and banned you or your guild from all the public terminals, space, and shuttleports?

Well if its butted up too a major city, then the use of these would be pointless. It would have been nice to have built you house right outside the walls of say cornet, but the city is its own zone. And major citys are laggy enough with out 200 other houses it has to load in every time, But it still would have rocked.

The no-build zone exists mainly to prevent that bug from happening...now what SOE should do is change them from no-buld zones, and simply disallow dropping of city-halls in that zone to prevent that problem.

It would also make the GCW meta game more meaningful..I mean if you lived in a Imperial controlled city you would have somethinhg to fight for..your home! IF the city falls under Rebel occupation, then you will have difficulties being Imperial in such a place.

So many cities are built around POI cities, the 1000 meter distance because SOE in its infinite wisdom released player cities long before creature mounts, then vehicles. Way back in the good old days when we walked everywhere we all wanted something near a shuttleport/starport. I think if mounts and vehicles had been released with the original game (as planned) we would have seen player cities spread out a bit more.
