Thread: City takeovers
Hostile takeovers have and do occur.
If they are able to declare as a citizen they can enter the race for mayor and whoever has the most votes will win.
Doesn't seem to me that is the way it was intended to work as shouldn't there be some kind of "new resident" period where they cannot vote until they have lived there for a week or so.. ..
Kinda strikes home as this just happaned to the city I craft out of a certain person ran for mayor and then shuttled in his guild to grant rights so they could beat out the old mayor. Whoever is mayor doesn't really matter I guess but we were taking great strides in developing a mall and bringing people in.. .. but now who knows what will happen.
I just thought there should be a waiting period between when you declare in a city and when you can vote to keep the city in the hands of the people that do the work.. ..and live there hehe.
If the mayor has decorated the city hall with his or her own things it would be nice to let them know I guess - although if a mayor does not realize in time that they are about to get kicked out of their office it is not a real sign of interest anyway...
This happens all the time on all the servers, in fact Bria goes through a cycle around every four months where mobs set their sights on certain cities and take them over, followed by the destruction of the city. I do not agree on a cool down period for new citizens, once your militia recruits or allows a new resident they should have full voting rights. The fault of the take over is with the Mayor and his/her militia. A city is only as strong as it's active members.
I also worried about the player purge (currently urban legend status). The first time this was done every player city, mayor raised holy hell about losing residents. Many old cities that have been around since November of 2003 will go poof forever, yet on the other hand what are we holding onto? Ghost towns with shuttleports that support only a few active players. Maybe it is time to finally realize that the new players should get a chance to advance their cities and see how they manage things.
Part of the remaining joy of this game is the flux and constant change within the community yet many of us Mayors hang on to our old ways, clinging to the last bits of the old game.

Our city has yet to have this issue, then again we control who comes into the city and its a guild only city. I control who comes into the guild and thus who lives in my city. I also control who is the mayor so the city runs fairly smooth. The guild votes for who we tell them to for mayor (he has been our mayor for quite sometime now and will stay as long as he is ingame) I geuss some cities dont have this ability since they are multi-guild or open cities. I think this is where many cities open themselves up to such takeovers.
A possible answer to such takeovers is to make your city guild only.

I have to agree and Disagree with this...
I have started my very own Guild and City, Yes I agree, that when it's a Guild only City, it keeps the "Bad apples" out of the bunch, and every now and again a worm seems to crawl into the basket, but soon, he/she shows their true intent and eventually gets either booted out or they leave on their own...The disagree part is, and maybe you didn't mean for it to be intended that way, but, it makes it sound as though you are controlling everything and everyone in the guild.city.
I have a lot of very good people in my Guild and City, and most of them I am RL friends with. When you have Very loyal Guild Members and Citizens, they aren't going to allow anyone to come in and take over something they they themselves help to keep going.
I tell all my Guild members/Citizens that this is their City and Guild as well, But I run a Highly Moral, Mannered, and respectful Guild and City and I am a big stickler for Honour and Respect and Well Mannered People.
But as for Open Cities and Multi-Guilded citys, those are always a problem, and if they aren't yet, they will be.
