Thread: suggest for better player's cities
This has been an ongoing issue ever since Player Cities were brought in.
If they were to implement something like this, they'd first need to fix up a radius around PoIs though, as there are cities that have PoIs within their boundaries, this shouldn't be allowed.
But yes as has been said, time and time again, it'd be nice if Player Cities could have the same sort of structure layout as NPC ones.
How about making it so that Architects can make Slum style housing like in the NPC cities, Tatooine for example has different variants of this, you have the slave quarter style housing in Mos Eisley and Mos Espa, as seen in Ep1 where Anakin lived with his mother and you have the small houses like on the hill behind the cloning facility at Bestine.
Also how about making it so all houses can be placed right next to each other, so players can create avenues. Also what about Walls/Fences around the city? Last but not least... paving and bridges.
How about making it, so that a Mayor has the decision when the city is formed and rises through the levels, he is given the decision as to whether to keep the terrain as it is or level it to the same level as the city hall.
Whilst am all for players placing their houses where they want, I think when it comes to a City, it should be either the Mayor or his chosen advisor to place structures down. This of course brings up one issue, how do you manage lots... simple solution. Make it so structures inside a city are free as far as lots go.
"How do you sort out removing the buildings then, doesn't this give mayors an abusive power?"
No because what happens is, is that every structure still will have the admin rights, when initially placed the Mayor will have these rights, but when a player takes the structure as their own, they can remove him from the admin list, now if the player leaves and the structure goes into condemned status, as others have suggested, a Mayor is given the opportunity to evict the owner of the building/structure. So it is upto the player to keep the Mayor informed of whether he is coming back to the game or not.
Any items left in the structure are placed into the players deposit box and the Mayor has the opportunity to then reclaim the spot.
To ensure that the requirements for some of the structures are kept intact (ie theater, hospital, cantina) to plant one of these, the city has to have a player of the required master profession declared as a citizen before it can be placed. Any people that fit this profession requirement are then automatically added to the admin of the civic structure in question.
This way, rather than houses/cantinas/hospitals/guildhalls being all over the place, one person can ensure that the city is setup nicely.
How would they do this, simple, from the Town Hall, the Mayor/City Planner can access a terminal which gives them opportunity to "Place Structure" from radial menu, this then brings up a window with the available structures that can be placed, that the Mayor/City Planner has deeds for in his inventory... when he selects the structure, the over the top window then appears above the city hall, giving the player the opportunity to move around as far as the cities radius goes and he can then plant the structure.
Now the main reason why we've never had walls/fences is because of the placing system. All structures have a centerpoint by which they are rotated. Obvious counter to this is to make it so that the walls/fences are on the edge of the square. Seeing as we can't place structures in different angles like the npc cities are, I see no argument for us if they were to implement it so fences could only be placed in 90 degree angles from one and other.
The major issue regarding walls/fences is how they are calculated on the structure chart. once you get out of the village circle, cities do become real big and to have a wall/fence network setup around it would take up a fair few slots, but maybe it is just a case of increasing the number of items that can be placed to account for this.
Just some ideas that popped in my head, whilst "thinking outside the box"![]()
one question regarding the condemed buildings.
What happens if the player's deposite box is full . . . or they have more items int he house than the box will support such as the 250 items in a condemed guild hall?
