Thread: A cool idea to increase city traffic...

Ok, I have this idea that I think is not only possible, but would be rather popular. The devs have stated in the past that player cities cannot host things like static quests, primarily due to the fluid nature of PCs. But what is there was a system wherein the starting point for a quest was fluid in and of itself?

Here's my thought. Mayors have the option to place a quest beginning person in their city hall. Factional or generic, it doesn't really matter. He's a standard person: he tells you a little story and then asks you to do something. After a couple of deliveries or hunts or something he thanks you and gives you something. He then tells you of a friend of his in another specific player city that could use some help. Off you go to that city to start another. Perhaps he could even make his final mission to deliver something to this friend. This could be a whole string of semi-related quests that take you to all of the larger player cities on any given world.

In order to place this quest giver, the city must be at least rank 4. This will prevent the situation of a person taking a mission and then having the city poof while they are still working on it. Also, the quest giver MUST be placed in city hall and be non-movable once placed, for the same reason. Regardless of which city you srart this series of quests in, you will get the same gift in the end. So whether someone starts the quest in Mos Vegas or Rua Ardan, they will get the same reward. Perhaps a badge system could even be incorporated into this. If, say, someone successfully runs missions in five cities on a planet they would get a badge saying something like "... has provided a great service to the greater people of Dantooine."

What makes this system unique is the fludity of it all. When a mission set is completed the player is directed to another city that has a quest giver for the second leg, but the process is random. So if two people are doing this together, they might get different directions at the end. So what do you think? Is this a good idea?

Here's a brief idea of what I am talking about:

You enter city hall and see a rodian standing next to the voting terminal His name is Queearch and his title is City Planner. You go talk to him.

"Hi there. It's nice to see that someone still comes to our city, with all thebutterflies around. (This is on Corellia. On Tatooine he might talk about the womp rats, etc.) What I really need is someone to hunt them for me and reduce the population around here. Tell you what, you bring me back proof that you eliminated twenty of them and I will make it worth your while."

"Welcome back. Great job with the butterflies. Here, this is for you. (Maybe a small monetary reward or a trivial prize.) You seem reliable. I was expecting a shipment of decorations for the upcoming Boonta Eve celebration, but my delivery was ambushed by a pack of meatlumps. Could you go get it for me? Great!"

"Excellent... The show must go on, you know, but with these decorations it will be a wonderful festival. Our mayor wanted you to have this. (More money and a slightly better gift.) While I have you here, I was hoping you could do me a favor. My colleague in Trade Goods is in need of this htdrospanner, but I just don't have the time to get it to her. Could you take this out that way? She might have some work for you as well. You will? Great! Thanks again for all of your help and good luck out there."

And when you deliver to the person in Trade Goods, you get a prize and start the second arc. Each time you visit a new city the prize value increases.

"What you have just said is the most insanely idiotic thing I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. We award you no points and may God have mercy on your soul."

i like this idea.

I was gonna try to setup a quest using the player event perks. But....... it was gonna be expensive to rent all that stuff. Yet still only last 8 hrs. So more or less it would have been a quick quest, one that if you were there, ur lucky. So in the end I have not been able to garner the time and resources to put quest together, that just so happens to go through the city I live in.

If you get a couple people together who are available for a couple hrs. You could essentially set this up. Something for the newbies to experience. Once a newbie has a pleasent experience in a town, they are more likely to return again...and again. THUS more business and word of mouth. So just have someone who doesnt lag alot go into to the city, find a low level charachter and start talking. Start a quest that way, give them 100 credits to get by shuttle to your town along with a waypoint to the city hall. Then from there.... a quest is born. Something like a "special named" shirt or hat if they get through the whole quest within the 3 hrs that it is going on.

Anyhooos, if you can understand that, I applaud you.

Great idea. Good points and it gets people out to see the other cities.

This is an awesome idea. Our city has been fairly empty since the CU and this would be a reason for people to come back since the remainder of people still playing are all on kashyyyk running quests.

Great idea. Only people from Radiant will understand why you used Trade Goods as a city example. (I have a character there)
