I don't know what you mean by "resigned" as there is no way to resign. A mayor can choose not to run in the election and get voted out (as mine just did), but there is no way to resign.

But all fo you be aware of this type of scam where if your not paying attention some joker can gank ur town by running for mayor if your out of town for a week or two and rob your treasury... Ask someone to watch the town when your leaving game for more then a week

Whoever has the most votes at the end of the three-week cycle wins the election. If no one is running, it defaults to the incumbent. You can only register to run during the first two weeks of the election, but you can withdraw from the race at any time.

The option on the voting booth to resign is to withdraw from the election. You cannot resign from office; you must be voted out.
