Ok, here is the scenerio...

Rank 3 city, with a Master Politician at the helm...

New young novice politician goes to terminal and enter's the mayoral race, can he win if only one person casts a vote in his favor, and noone else casts a vote for the current mayor? If he wins, how does this effect the city? All structures placed by the master politician such as garage, cloner, large gardens and such, would they be safe? Would the new younger politician be able to remove them, but not replace them, because he/she lacks the skill to do so? What about items in the city hall, the old mayor now will not have access, but the new mayor will? How will the new politician gain experience, for example the old way the politician didnt have to do anything if noone was running against him, he got xp per citizen on a weekly basis, citizens didn't have to physically govote. How does it work now for the politician that is working on gaining xp to level? Will it take him forever to get to master so he can server the city to the same extent that the former Mayor did?

Also is there anyway for a novice politican to gain XP, if he isnt mayor of a city?

Lots of questions I know, but any answers to them would be gretaly appreciated.

Oh, one other question, what happens to the militia when a novice politician takes over...

structures stay ... but if novice pulls em up .. he cant replace them till he has the ability ...

militia stays .. less novice removes them from militia (he cant re add them)

there is really no other quick way to get the xp other then having the mayor char in an active city that citizens will vote for em ...

ok, so let's say the new novice mayor wins the election, if noone is running against him/her and noone is voting, how do they get XP to advance beyond Novice? Is it beneficial to have someone run against them, and have a few others keep voting the newbiein? Is votes the only way a politician can get xp?

if i am not mistaken a policitian that currently holds office will still receive a minimal amount of xp per week cycle ... then a small bonus during the mayor cycle for 'retaining office' ... but to master it would take a few years at that rate ... the only way is to have people vote .. even if it is nothing more then a small outpost with 10 people in it voting each cycle for that person till they have it mastered.

So if i read this right, if no one votes for the novice, he will never gain XP?

I am thinking that a Novice politician in a city run by a well entrenched encumbent will never have a chance to get to Master Politician

Ugh that reeks of R/L in a major way, since most folks are too lazy to go vote and in SWG the incumbent doesnt need votes to win if the challenger gets none.

each person that runs for office automatically has 1 vote (they auto vote for themselves) so they will get the xp for that 1 vote ... i am unsure what would happen if a person was running against mayor .. and no one voted .. then it would be a tie with each having 1 vote ...

yeah it is pretty much like real life ... but if it is a town of laid back and lazy people .. just make friends with one or two and get them to vote for you ... if you are holding the office you get more xp per cycle even if people dont vote .. but you get a LOT more when people do vote for you ...

in 2 cycles so far my char has gone up to 2222 in politician .. this is with about 30 votes per cycle ... with the next one coming up i should be able to train at least another 2 or 3 boxes ...

I found this in the knowledge base....

Any citizens that do not place a vote for a new mayor running in the election will be counted as a vote for the current mayor.

This confuses me, you say a new mayor can get in with just one vote, but if the ablove statement is true, all citizen's of the city who don't actaully go in and vote for the new running mayor, will have defaulted votes to the current mayor...

Am I reading this wrong?

Devil, when you say that you get folks to vote for you in order to get xp after you become mayor, I assume you must have someone run against you each cycle, cause if noone is running against the current mayor, then the option to vote isnt there, correct?

This is how it works to my understanding.

Anyone that does not vote votes for the incumbent, and the current mayor will receive XP for that vote. A newbie cannot come in, get one vote, and win. He has to get a majority of votes from the current citizens.

Ok, in a nutshell...

Mayor was revamped a while back. The old system pretty much locked in a mayor forever unless you had a ver active player base in your city. Under the OLD way all votes counted for the incumbant unless someone specifically voted for a challenger. Also, elections were held weekly. I BELIEVE that the only XP a mayor got was 100 per vote.

Under the current system, elections have been moved to every three weeks. Votes earn a mayor 300 XP each, I believe. (numbers tend to elude me) Additionally, a mayor recieves a "salary" of 1000XP (again, not positive of the exact number) per week just for serving. The biggest change is that votes are no longer automatic. The current Mayor isn't even running unless he or she registers every cycle. All votes are tallied at the election and the victor is the person whomever most people actually voted for. Gone are the days of "Chicago-style" voting with every registered citizen (even deleted accounts) casting ballots for the incumbant.

Ok, im an old fogy, so I guess I was working under the old ways. I haven't led a city in a while, and if I am required to run and be voted in every three weeks, I probably wont do so ever again.

No wonder our mayor quit.

Oh... And yes, a new mayor CAN come in and win with only one person voting. I believe that the election closes to new candidates one week prior to the election. This was implemented to ensure that nobody snipes the election at the last minute. You think losing that nice cow pitcher on eBay sucks, try losing your job! LOL...

It is as I have said all along... Watch who you let into your city. hat nice new 20 person guild might put you over the top for Metropolis, but if they have just one person with novice politician they can yank your city quicker than greased owl snot. And you mentioned losing your shuttle, bank, or cantina... Try City Hall itself. The moral of the story is if you are mayor be selective with your new residents and if you are a citizen watch your email for NEW CANDIDATE mails. It could save your cities.
