Thread: Sales Tax

Hi, we have been experimentating with taxes in our city, and tried to set up a sales tax last night. I had someone make a purchase at two different vendors, and they did not notice a price increase to accomidate the tax. I checked the city treasury and it stayed the same as well. My question is does Sales Tax work properly? Are the credits deposited during the city update or something?

I have noticed that none of the cities on Naboo on Naritus use Sales Tax, perhaps I know the reason why now.

Thanks

It does work. It just takes awhile for vendors to update their prices, and start charging it for you. Check tomorrow, and it should be fine.

It was my understanding that there must be a sales tax in place at the time the item is put up for sale and that any tax rate remains the same on a particular item based upon when the item is put up for sale.

for example:

place item for sale at zero tax rate... increase tax rate to 5%.... item still has no tax

Place item for sale at 3% tax rate... increase tax rate fo 7%... item is still taxed at 3%

place item for sale at 8% tax rate... lower taxes to 2%... item still has 8% tax

I always thought the taxes 'stuck' at the rate when it was added to vendor.

Correct this if it's wrong.. it may be, but that was my understanding.

Didn't happen that way with ours... after it was implemented, the vendors had no tax. Placing new items for sale, they still had no tax. Then Bria did it's nightly crash. When it returned, everything had the tax. Seems it needed a reboot to work it out.

We had a different experience, and this is around the time when servers were up for two days before reboot.

In our experience the vendors only picked up the new tax when the item was put up for sale. We cleared our sales tax at one point, and the only way to remove it from the items was to withdraw the sale and repost the item.

When we readded the sales tax we needed to do the same thing, it never auto-updated old items.

I'm new to this forum, so if this is already in discussion please direct me to the thread.

First of all, does anyone here like the way the Sales Tax is setup? I like the idea of having one, but not the way it is implemented. My thought is to see if SOE can change it so that the percentage is taken out of the total cost that the Merchant sets, instead of tacking it on at the end after the Merchant has set their price.

Example: 1% sales tax on anitem that the merchant placed on a vendor at 20,000 credits.

Now: The sales tax would be added onto the set price for a total price to the customer of 20,200 credits.

Any thoughts?

Boy, I really wish someone would ask about sales tax....

Another funny thing about sales tax, it always rounds down.

SOE's way of doing sales tax = stupid, its the reason why I havnt put a sales tax in my city.

The way that you and every other politician thinks it should be implemented is the logical way and the devs must of been drunk when they thought of adding credits to peoples carefully selected and advertised prices.

The way it's implemented is the same way sales tax is handled in most parts of the US. It's tacked on to the end after the sale price is set. Admittedly, having the sales tax incorporated into the sticker price of items you buy has been the feature I appreciate most when I have shopped in other countries, and I really wish stores in the US would do it this way. But the idea of the implementation isn't so odd as you may think (unless you consider American custom and policies to be odd, and an argument could certainly be made for that!)
