Thread: Bridges
i've read the terraforming posts and others, but i wanted to start a new thread regarding specifically bridges.
personally, i think the ravines, etc. add character to the city, and i think bland flat terraformed cityscapes would seem unnatural.
our city is on corellia, and we have several creeks running though it.
simply stated, if we could just place some bridges, say small, medium, and large, we would have some nice looking cities.
on a more ambitious note, if we had a large bridge we could span a river which cuts through a portion of our city, which would be pretty cool.
question #1: who agrees that at the very least bridges would help with our cityscape problems?
question #2: has anyone tried successfully to span a creek/ravine with a large garden, or medium?
thanks

i totaly agree with the need for bridges. I have river running down one side of my city and i would love to bridge it. Ive also seen a city that is built in and around a gulch. if the small islands were turned into gardens and bridged together it would look amazing.
as for trying to bridge using garens no i havent yet.

Bridges, Walls, Roads, etc... They're all needed... when (or if) they're ever actually implemented I think is a long long lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng ways away...
I don't know if it would be a herculean task (although it might still be time consuming or difficult). Half the battle is already won, we have bridges and walls existing as "physical" objects in game (roads are more "iffy" because they require modifying the actual terrain "skin" rather than placing something on it). The only real catch is that the world designers knew exactly how long each wall and bridge needed to be and could customize them as they saw fit.
There could be some complications of doing it afterwards. Walls will probably be the easiest to do, you just purchasesections of wall X game meters long until you finish the wall. Because the ravines, ponds, and streams aren't regular having a small number of standard bridges will probably be out. As I said before, currently we (the players)can't change the "skin" of the terrain, we just cover it. This means that "roads" like thePre-build cities are impossible, they justput objects andbuildings over a an appropratelydrawn"skin".
Despite the difficulty (and other worthy fixes and changes) I think having both walls and bridges would be a great addition to player cities.
We actually have a bridge. We built our city around this bridge on Dantooine. A river runs down the center of town.

Besides walls, bridges, and roads are things that just about everyone wants so if keeping posts up top a little bit longer then otherwise helps push that along so be it.
if they decided to implement wall structures, and road tiles, we could even build our own bridges... by placing two parallelwalls over the river/gorge/ditch, and covering with road tiles

Ba'aar sits between two rivers that empty into the South Talus Sea. We've expanded to the point where the city stretches to the outer banks of both rivers, and no, I can't get any gardens or other structures to act as a bridge. ![]()
I would really, really, really, really, really, really, really like it if we got the ability to place bridges, however.
