Thread: attention:MAYOR OF THEED
It could be faction based and depend on which faction was in charge of the city at the moment. Most fun and interesting things start with one idea and others build on it.
i think it's an amazing idea. i've proposed a system similar to this as well.
although in my system it wouldn't be one person elected as mayor. each city would have a city council of 9 or 11 or so. that would allow more players to participate in playing as Politicians, and also prevent a power monger from griefing.
also in my proposed system, there would be apartments and shops which would be rentable by players, and those citizens will do the voting to elect the city council.
the city council will actually get to play as politicians. they'll have to vote amongst themselves in balancing the budget, deciding how to spend city taxes, and maybe even specializing in certain areas of city life (or as ambassadors to other cities).
they would have to work to benefit the city through defenses, factional alignment, city bonuses to crafting, medicine, or entertainment, trade with other cities (i've also proposed ideas for a Freighter profession so regular players can't move bulk items around anymore).
and of course they'll have to do all this while keeping taxes down!
it would really add a great deal of immersion to the game, and help to make it feel more like WORLD than a game, as it was originally intended to be.
I too suport all of this a thousand times over.
However, I do wish they would put more effort into making player cities like static cities, just as beautiful. If that were the case... then we probably would not be debating who should be mayor in a static city, becuase real player cities woule be as beautiful and desirable to live in too.
Just a thought though... but if we were alowed as residents and politicans of static cities, would that not also be an admission at a preceived failure of player cities? I think the real oppertunity is to really grant powers to mayors, and allow him to delegate to a city council. And for them to be able to craft their cities into near - static prefection as they can. Because this is part of the reason player cities lose their luster.

yes whether it's player cities, or static NPC cities, we need a MAJOR revamp for the places we live. right now they're not cutting it. there's no point in hanging around in the place you live unless you're Roleplaying, dropping off/picking up items from your house, or crafting something.
maybe there's just too many player cities for them to have a true "city feel"?
i think the game's mechanics have always allowed for too much independence among players. the CU adressed this for combat, but we need to address the issue for player shops and residences.
this level of independence, where almost anyone can start a new city whenever they like, causes the community to become spread too thin.
i would just rather players took control of NPC cities, and made them NON-static and expand upon them. only because cities like Coronet, Theed, and Mos Eisley are iconic to the Star Wars universe, and it would be AWESOME to say you live in one of them.

Pft... wookies, shouldn't you be building the Death Star? ![]()
The idea is wonderful, and I always wanted somthing like this. Allow master politicians to run as Governors or somthing. It can be elections every 2-3 weeks, and you can be both Governor and/or a mayor of a city.
I LOVE this idea!!! IT would get people to RolePlay a LOT more!!!!

well Coruscant isn't in the game... yet! that's the only reason i didn't list it hehe.
but i think that Coruscant CAN be done now that we've seen how they did Kashyyyk!
someone on my server's forum mentioned an idea to make Coruscant similar to Kashyyyk, where there's "paths" and "doorways" leading to different zones.
it would be a GREAT way to put Coruscant into the game, and it wouldn't really break immersion too much, because the "doorways" to other zones could be made to be transports, or elevators taking you to different levels of the planet/city.
i remember reading a post elsewhere about doing Coruscant in a similar way, where there would be 4 levels (increasing in danger and Rebel activity as you go down). and each level would be a different world map.
pretty much the same idea, but if they did it like Kashyyyk it would be even more elaborate, since it could have "doorways" leading to other parts of the planet on the same level, and leading to lower levels.
now electing a city council to run Coruscant would be a bad idea, because the Emporer runs the show there.
plus there's no room for growth since the entire planet is one giant city.
it could be a good idea to allow players to rent apartments and shops there though. but the rents should be the highest in the galaxy.
