Thread: ghost towns
I have to agree with Chibi-Bar. I do not think we will ever get away from "ghost towns". A metropolis could have a 100 active citizens but maybe only have 10 or less actually in the city at one time. The reason you see so many people in Coronet or other major NPC cities is because many people log in and out of those major cities and are bartering or doing other small things before they go hunt.
It would be nice to have player cities that look exactly like NPC cities, but I don't think it will ever be possible. Hundreds of people log into a city at times, and the chance that a player city will have hundreds of people in their city is very slim unless it is a night of a party or other major event being hosted in that particular city.
I agree with Steelheart ... our city, Mos Veros on Kauri was very strategically placed ... we put our mall right next to the Shuttle port. It seems that our merchants cant keep thier vendors stocked. That was a great marketing strategy. Our cloning center is also close to the Shuttle. However, if you need a mission terminal, trainers, cantina or hospital .. then you have to head down main street and look at the town. Our city bustles quite happily. Seems our mission terminals are in use and or cantina is frequented quite often. I almost always have a bustle of visitors. Our Urban Planner (Master Architect) laid out a very carefully planned design, we stuck to it, and it works perfectly. A very busy city indeed. We have yet to have but one griefing issue (spammer) and other than that, our Mos Veros life is good and flourishing. I think perhaps, just like in any marketing ... you have to provide what people NEED ... then market and spread the word and get them there. To qoute a great movie ... "If you build it, they will come".
So dont throw in the towel guys ... with a little careful planning, a little marketing, and a little hope ... you can make your cities thrive as well.
Ahn, tell me how many times can I just walk into your town and find 20 people wandering around? If it is a rare occurence then you aren't a bustling city you are just a normal one.
There is no reason to stay around in a town longer then to shop, heal, clone, and grab 2 missions. After that the city is just a pleasant place to be and that doesn't really draw the crowds. All PC's are is a group of homes and vendors but with a radius that labels them as a town. These have existed for many months but just weren't official. Those towns were ghosts and just because you have a few civic structures don't expect things to change.

Not sure where else i may take this, so i try here where you politicians are. Maybe the core sys boards but i'll try here first.
Im a guild leader who are cooperating whit an another guild and theyre town.
The town is "quite" new but i have some questions.
Many player made towns are and will become so called "ghost" towns.
I really like to play this game and to contribute to it all. One of my main issues now is how to you create a "living" town, how do you prevent towns from"ghosthood"?
Is this a major issue for other mayors, or do you just accept how it is?
If this is a major issue what have been suggested and why?
I would really appreciate some feedback on this, because i really like this game and want to have as much fun as i can, and part of the fun is a strong, tight and friendly relationships whitin a town. "at leat for many of us"!
