Thread: Chef... give it time

The time of the chef hasn't come yet. Most people are still pretty poor and are still figuring out where they want to go down their skill trees. Additionally, food and drink isn't absolutely necessary at noob levels. I'm betting that most players haven't even figured out the real benefit of food and drink yet. However...

The day will come when a large portion of the players are well-established in their chosen professions and have a few extra coin and understand the benefit of being well-fed. Then, they will be looking for anything that will give them an edge over the competition... particularly in PvP.

Some professions blossom early (like scouts) while other don't see a meaningful profit until later (most artisan professions). Chef definitely falls into the "later" category at both the micro and macro level. The materials cost for even the Dom line of food is higher than the price the market willing to pay at the moment. But that will change.

Cheers,

Jonzun

It's not just a matter of people not having the money or that our time that has not come...there are several design flaws that are making this profession not that playable.

If our time is to come, it will be after the developers do a lot of work.

Right now smugglers can produce spice that has just as good buffs, that last longer and aparrently cheaper.

I agree, whether our time comes or not if they don't fix the flaws and mistakes of the professions then it won't matter anyways.
I don't mind work, I and most other chef's trying to support themselves off food sales, have busted our butts to be where we are. I'm just tired of getting kicked in the stomach (as another chef wrote) every time I level up. This profession makes getting a promotion depressing.

I'm not actually that botherred by smuggler buffs themselves, I just find it frustrating that in the amount of xp it takes for me to get halfway to the second tier of any chef skill tree a smuggler can complete the spice tree which gives new recipes and experimentation at the same time, while the devs thought it'd be fun to make us work our asses off on a fairly thankless job, and then spent our hard earned xp on cooking with a slight improvement in our buffs(and because chef buffs suck right now, it'll take a long time even when I haveÂcooking IV for people to realize their power)

Joe Smoe sends you:"I just need them for my pets , just make me your worst stuff".

thats all I can get for my chef.. and I end up making Bofa Treats anyways.

That may be the case; however, when that day comes I personally won't be there. Getting to Novice Chef and learning that my new foods are less beneficial, and that I will now need to skill up exclusively on these new foods was a horrible feeling. I felt cheated out of my time invested in becoming a Novice Chef.

The Chef profession is currently forcing a player to grind out skills. I do not want to grind. I want to serve drinks and sell food that can help my fellow player. I was doing that at Domestic IV, why am I not allowed to do the same at Novice Chef?

I completely agree with your post though, Jonzun. It's just for me, skilling up from Novice Chef isn't fun so I'm not even going to bother with it.

I hope the devs just send us some love soon. The grind really is starting to wear on my wrists.

Heh, I hear that ReblSoldier. I was in the cantina in Naboo last night and a guy asked if I could make him some food. I asked what he wanted and he said "It doesn't matter ,it's just for my pet". I asked how much he needed and he said "However much you can make with the resources you have." It then dawned on me that he thought it would be free, so I told him it wouldn't be. He sent a panicked "How much???". I made him a deal with it working out to less than 2 creds per resource used and made bofa treats and travel biscuits. Then he only took the bofa treats hehe. That's why I mainly work as an entertainer.

Isn't also true that you don't get UXP for pets eating your food?

Do the devs hate the chef profession?

I thought we did get XP for pets eating food, I could be wrong though.

I'm personally not getting UXP from anyone unless I am online when they eat it.

You get uxp for pets eating food. I tested it earlier today. You get uxp for players eating food.

You only get the uxp when someone finished your stack, so you can eat all but one item from the stack and give that last item to a friend.

You dont get uxp for factory created food.
