Thread: Question about Flameout

Some PA members have informed me that using a Flameout actually does what its name implies. As you may know, Commandos can use flamethrowers to cause opponents to catch fire. It is a damage-over-time (DOT) effect that causes a particular amount of damage every X number of seconds for Y period of time. I have been told that using a Flameout actually puts the flame out, and stops the DOT. Can anyone confirm this?

If this is something everyone but me already knew, I apologize. However, it certainly came as news to me.

The only thing that makes me believe that, is if the DOT is health based, in which case it is neutralized by the Flameout buff to health depending on the length of the flameout buff vs the length of the DOT.

The rest sounds like a myth to me.

Very Very interesting, especially considering the name.

I'm going to be testing this tonight with my magic fire stick and a volunteer from the audience..

Definately need to have things like this.. always wondered what the people on tatooine were supposed to do to put out fires.

Even though it does not work, it would be good to show the devs some stuff like this. A food that has an effect other than a buff.

Yes yes and YES!! hehehe excally since they added diseased and Posion to some of the weaker creatures. It would be nice to have a food that either protected you from it or reduced some of the effects.

It turns out that this rumor originated withLordSeckmoth, the Commando Correspondent, in his recent State of the Profession post on Commandos. Here is his quote:

"Oddly enough there is an item that stops the Burn effect.... Flameout made by Master Chef's. The only thing is I haven't seen one to buy, and only have seen it used, but the Imp told me they are expensive. 1mil for 5 uses or something like that; not sure if it's from lack of Chef's or the items needed. *Probably both*"

When challenged about this statement, he replied:

"Joh,

I had a friend get me some of these; and was set on fire. Yes they actually put the fire out.... I do not know why this went unnoticed before hehe. Guess there aren't enough master Chef's"

Frankly, I am calling BS on this, even though it is from a Correspondent, until someone actually tests it and reports it. I will try tonight if I can find a willing Commando to light me up.

I tried this with a commando friend and it did not work for me.

Maybe it only works for a commando? How apt that a chef would not be able to sample his own wares...
