Thread: Need advice about cantinas

Hey there,
I need some advice about cantinas. I just got my cantina set up, and going to do a grand opening soon...and want to do something special for the grand opening.
What do you all do to attract customers to your cantinas besides just post advertisements on the forums?
Do you all have special events? If so, what do you do?

I also run a cantina and put on events in my cantina.
- So far we've had a grand opening with a great band, and just kind of partied it up.
- I've done a Star wars trivia contest with prizes.
- A dating game type of event that went along with a Bachelor auction where ladies bid on guys for a "date".
- Just this past weeked we had a Ms Corbantis Pagent as well, soon to come Mr Corbantis. =D
I'd say anything you can do with prizes or pretty ladies and guys will get people there for an event. 
For prizes you can get different professions/people to donate things, credits is always good too. I would think some cases of Brandy, Synthsteak, other popular foods would be pretty good prizes as well. Then just advirtise on your server board, word of mouth really gets the people in as well. I still think it's hard to keep a consistant staff ofentertainers in player cantina's though, unless they live in that city already and are done grinding up, so food and events is how I get people to mine. Being in a neutral city doesn't hurt either, allowing both sides of the fence the ability to shop and participate in events easier.

A couple things I've seen people do that got my attention:
1) Hire a band, but you're probably already doing this.
2) Have a drawing. Make up some "raffle ticket" items named with unique numbers (fiberplast panels might work), then use a 100-sided or configurable die to handle the selection. Prizes can be food items, cash, maybe some loot.
3) Advertise "open mic night" to see if you can get some budding comics.
4) Mention a "super secret special surprise". Show up shirtless and wearing hotpants.

I'm a wookiee. I show up shirtless and pantless all the time. Don't think the hotpants will fit.

One thing I was thinking of doing was having a pikeman melee contest (pikemen need some lovins.) I would give out two prizes: 1 prize would be for the person who actually wins the contest. The second prize would be for the best role player. People who enter the contest would vote for the best role player.

The only problem with the pikeman contest is that it could turn into a two person tournament.I don't know about your server but on Shadowfire real pikeman are few and far between.
