not bad brandy for your first try, except for the barrel issue.

I like to think of the chef community as vietnam. We have been at war for bug fixes with the devs since day one, and are used to not having them looked at, and only gettingone fix per publish that comes with an even worse bug, kind of how the vietnamese had to deal with the chinese, when they kicked them out in came the french, then the americans after the french left, then the khmer rogue after that. But look at them now, a thriving communist nation, it only took 1500 years of patience. We are on year one, and we have already got rid of a half dozen oppressers, flora farms not being craftable, the crate/stack bug, the stat stacking bug, etc. At this rate we are bound to break the vietnamese record by roughly 1498 years, so look for us in the Gueniss book of world records when we are fixed and working in like 14 months!

rofl...

Nice. Yeah, I hope they can get the major bugs taken care of. I'm sure it sometimes seems to the devs that there's an overwhelming number of bugs to be taken care of. So why not take something simple to start? I mean, if I were to clean up my room... *looks around* ehehe.I wouldn't start with reorganizing my dresser. I'd pick up that paper that's on the floor. Then the dirty laundry, then uh... you get the idea.

I'll stand up and unashamedly say I ground to master chef on the way to (hopefully) unlocking my FSS. 21 professions down and counting.

Every time I work on a new profession, I gain a little insight into what it's like for those who do it for a living - what resources are required, what's involved in making [insert item here]. And with the crafting professions, I gain a real appreciation for the people who work hard to supply us with the products we buy in-game. Chef is no exception; I wouldn't want to be a career chef for anything, and my hat's off to all of you.

Upon reaching master chef I hoped to make some excellent Vasarian Brandy for myself and my friends, and spent several hours just visiting vendors and purchasing resources. I paid for a schematic for broad-spectrum nutrients, and (as I was working on Architect next) made half a dozen factories so I could get everything running as quickly as possible. Every time I hit a snag, I found some way to overcome it, and it was with great anticipation (and a little bit of pride) that I began the combine for the final schematic.

I made the combine, and everything looked great: 401 power, 41 minute duration... but one thing confused me. Only 6 charges? I was using what I thought was the best drink container available. I tried it again to be sure... 6 charges. By now most of you know my mistake. I was using the Barrel.

I had gathered the resources to make nearly 1000 barrels, and paid for schematics for the power conditioner and control unit I needed, and indeed made a few hundred barrels, before I discovered the mistake. And what a mistake it was.

My first mistake, friends, was in continuing to trust that the information provided in-game is complete and accurate. My second was in trusting that such a small mistake could go uncorrected, when it is known to exist. And my third mistake was in not conferring with any career chefs, who would have been able to steer me away from any hazards.

My first reaction was shock, followed by disbelief, then horror, then anger, then depression... and now a deep disappointment. This is not the first time I've been disappointed with something in SWG, but it seems to me that this is inexcusable. The bugged Barrel could probably be fixed in a matter of minutes by someone familiar with the code. I'm not a programmer--I've taken some 200-level programming courses and conferred with someone majoring in computer science--so correct me if I'm wrong. But the Chef #1 issue is something that ought to have been discovered and fixed almost immediately. It should never have had to be put on the top issues list.

That's why I'm so disappointed... and that's just one reason why every chef deserves a round of applause. Looking at the first page of the forum doesn't seem to turn up a single flame; compare that to most of the combat profession boards. The attitude seems to be one of hopeful expectation and forebearance, rather than the demanding selfishness seen in other places.

Anyway... for a while earlier I was furious. Not furious enough to cancel my account (it'd take more than hell, high water, and broken barrels to do that =P), but the closest I've yet come. I don't intend to let this deter me, though. I'll find 150k gemstone, and I'll get 2000 or so trim. And as I have everything else ready, it should be smooth sailing from there.

I have a whole factory made useless as I have 40 crates of CU and 40 of PC ready to go with 300k alluminum. Been sitting there since the big chef publish just waiting. It is a lot of material, so I don't want to chuck it, but at the same time, I am just wasting a factory as a storage bin.

the reason there are no flames is cause the profession has no pvp ties to speak of. It's a major thing that's wrong witht he game, people say it's holo grinders but I say it's pvp. Anyway back on topic That "is" some good brandy for a first attempt, sorry to hear about the barrels though. It's why I peruse these forums and ask my friends in game who are chefs, cause it's real easy to stumble over a 'feature" that doesn't actually work.

Do you have any idea how many issues still plaguing this game could be fixed by a few minutes editing a database? It'd be foolish to try counting them, but I'm sure there are hundreds, many longer standing and more damaging than barrels.

Good luck on your grind.

The real tragedy is that the barrel bug was caught by test center folk weeks before the chef revamp ever even happened.

As usual, it went in anyway.
