Is it possible to be competitive without the extra two points? I've noticed armorsmith seems to be harder and harder to get into because w/o the +2, the armor just isn't good enough. So if I don't have any extra experimentation points, will my food even compare to the chefs with +2?

I have 12 points and charge less than what most 10 point chefs charge. The 10 point chefs on my server easily make far more profit than I do. The big difference is the amount of work they are willing to put into their businesses. I can almost always make better food than them, but my goal has never been to make the most credits or sell the most food. I enjoy making the best food I can and selling it to the few people who know of me through word of mouth.

Stupid question: how do you know how many points you have?

Well..if your not wearing special clothes you only have 10 points at master.

Just go to make any chef food... *Make sure its a chef nto an artisan food*

If you have 10 points to experiment with when you start out..your a 10 point chef. If ya have 11 .. etc etc.

There is always room for more chefs, or any profession on any server........but , chance are if your on intrepid you better have more money than Nolof in order to win any auction! LOL

Basically, Nolof make great food, and lots of cash too, and being good means people are jealous and tear him down. I will admit it, even I get pissed off at him sitting here behind my computer, but then i sit back and remember, that he too went through this (I hope) and it will get better.

I am not a +2 chef, and I can still sell food. If fact, I got lucky, just made some canape that is +696, 33 fill, 6 use, but only 8min 28 sec. It sells good, and I make a good profit.

The problem being that the only way to get the extra points is to have the tapes. And with the rich ones paying whatever it takes just cause they have the money doesn't help out the ones who dont. Newer chefs, who don't have 15 million cannot afford to purchase the tapes outright, and keep the harvestors going, and sell the food for less, and so on. So the question is, can you afford the tapes right now......are you that committed to the profession to spend almost 20million on +2????? Do you see this as a viable option for you??

Basically, if you are not willing to work with the chef part of your character each and EVERY day, then it is not worth it, you wont be able to bring forward enough profit from the lower levels of stockin order to pay for the investment. I am doing ok, but I still have not made a profit. I have a guild who helps me out....and I still owe them alot.

Good luck, and remember Nolof is a good chef(hint: look at his vendors to figure what stats to shoot for) and don't feel bad. No matter even if you one day match his stats.....He will stay in business, and you will make a lot more money.!!!!

[Nolof: this post was not intended to harm you in any way. If you find offense in anything I said, I sincerely apologize, for it was not my intention]

Good Luck

i have to disagree,as a ten poi nt chef i had the highest stats on my server,as i had extremely good resources.you can compete but only with very uber reasources that arent available.

once availability comes you have to have 12 to stay ahead.

I don't think it's a neccesity, but I'm not sure how well I'd like to go without my 2 extra points. I've spent over 40 mil to achieve max experimentation and assembly points. Of course this was over the course of months, but I do feel bad for newer chefs starting out sometimes. I don't imagine it to be very easy at times.

However, I'm sure with some good advirtising, well stocked vendors, pricing accordingly,as well as variety, you could still make a very decent living and profit with only 10 points.

You can compete only having 10 points. I do, in my small way. One thing that helps is to keep a very close eye on resources spawning, and jump on the high ones. Also getgood quality tools and stations and (if you can spare the resources/components) keep trying for those amazing successes. Getting an amazing when experimenting 7 points at a time gives you the equivalent of an additional experimentation point (a great success gives +7% per point, an amazing gives +8%).

Although if I had noticed Cami auctioning off her +25 experimentation robe last week, I would've done some pimping around to try to scrounge up the money for it. Of course, the final bid was 18 million, so I would've been busy.

not a stupid question at all. masters with no extra points in clothes have +100 food experimentation, and that gives 10 points you get to experiment with. i have +10 in clothes now, and i make sure to check my ctrl-S before i make a schematic, to verify that it says Food Experimentation +100/+110, because once i forgot to put on my gloves...which is not only a health violation, it meant i didn't get to use my extra point to experiment that time.

moral of the story? even if you know how many points you have, you might not have them all on you, if you'rea scatterbrained chef like me. so, double check hehe.

you mean +20 points it takes 20+ points in skill tapes to get those extra 2 exp points, they really do make a difference I admit, I am currently working on getting my 12th point, but still you don't "need" to have the extra points, just price your foods accordingly and you'll still make sells. For example my foods may not be better than a 12 point chef, but I still have to stock regularly to keep up, it doesn't make a world of difference, it just depends on if you want to be the best at what you do.. also cause after a while, credits will pile up, so what else are you gonna spend it on?

I think Chef is one of the few professions left where you can make a nice profit without 12 Exp points. Notice I didn't say compete .. cause ya can't.

If your a 10 point chef you can't charge what a 12 point does ... If you keep your vendors stocked and price your products accordingly you will do JUST fine.

Comming from Intrepid we have ALOT of room for more Chefs IMO.

Well you get your first +5 experimentation / +5 assembly for about 500k in an apron (2 heavy duty leather and a schematic use talk to a friendly tailor). After that you'll have to be lucky or have a thick wallet, I spent 1.25mil for a pair of pants +3 and a shirt +2 (got very lucky) and then with 11 experimentation points my foods started selling very well. I got a +2 tape somewhere for 600k I think and two weeks later there was an instant sale for 8 mil for a +8 belt and I was there first so for 10.35 mil I got two extra points. Right now on Flurry there are a few new chefs with serious money so you can't get your hands on any tape for less than 500k per point (for bigger tapes).

The good thing is that as soon as you have some good resources you can make money like mad (I was making 2 mil per week with 11 points and then the extra costs aren't that bad.)

To the question can you make it as a chef with 10 points... Yes you can just make sure what you need to make and make sure you get a lot of amazing successessess to compensate. When you have some money though get that extra first point after that you can compete, I've had people tell me my so and so was the best on the server with just 11 points.
