buy harvesters and factories. Then harvest. After you harvest, start making stuff. Buy a house, get a vendor. Once you have stocked some stuff (brandy, accaragm, canape, etc, all normal not be) take a few crates with you wherever you go, and try selling it. Get your name out there, get the shop known and people spending money. This is a long process, good luck with it. Do not attempt to buy all your resources, you will need to harvest if you want to maintain good prices. Also, do not waste all your money on tissues/casks to be able to do that one run of uber-brandy, unless you are only in our profession to make credits and want to get burned out on it extra fast.
A few tips. Buy medium flora harvesters. These go for about 40-60k, and have a cap at 10 ber, which is the best bang for your buck, especially on maintenence costs. Get a lot of wheat. You will use this for most all of yoru components, especially alchohol, and quality doesn't matter. This is a great thing to plop your harvesters on while you look for better resources that you need in the final combine of your food. Also, start small. Only run a few crates of each food/drink, and gauge how well they sell. Build your bank and your resource piles up before you start doing full runs of anything aside from alchohol. That's about all I can say, I'm sure someone will fill in the ten thousands gaps I left.

Because he has nothing more to contribute it seems; just ignore it.
I am a new master chef as well...just entering my second week. I sold over 1 million credits worth of food my first week, but I had some help. I didn't notice...do you belong to a guild? If you do, see if there are other crafters who might be willing to give you some good resources. My guildmates gave me tons of resources, so I was able to start making food right away because I used the credits I had on BE tissues. I think the adivce you got above is very sound though. Find a spot for wheat on whatever planet you choose and plop one or two harvesters down...quality doesn't matter.
The big thing for me was making food in small factory runs; a couple cases of each item, breaking them into 10's and 5's with one or two full cases. I am beginning to see what sells and am slowly getting better resources in the meantime.
Use the Bazaar. Food sells like crazy on it. Be sure to put a waypoint to your vendor with each sale. When you have your vendor stocked, send an email to everyone who bought something from you off of the Bazaar to urge them to come check it out.
That's about all I have. I hope it helps a little. Good luck!
