Thread: Do chefs want restaurants ?? SCIGUYCo, whatdaya think?

Just wanted to see what all the other chefs out therethought about this idea.I was thinking we could have a single factory or maybe 2 factories in the 'kitchen' and be able to drop a food crafting (or any other) station in it as well, along with being able to have vendors (waiters??) all in the same building. I hate trying to run between 5 or 6 factories while dodgeing reds (no-combat skills for my chef) all day long.I would be willing to use up 5 or 6 lots for the convienence of running small factory runs (get one or 2 components made), in order to get the initial schematic, and then trot out to my food factories and drop in the schematic and resources.

What Id like, a structure with the look,and feel of a restaurant, haveing a 150-250 item capacity along with a mini-factory (50 item hoppers) or 2. Just a thought, what do you, my fellow chefs think? Sciguy?? Course we'd have to put power into the building, for the factories (stoves/ovens/blenders). I am hopeing thiswould save myself many trips to the clone facility, and not have to worry about my expensive clothing decaying so much.

I like the ideaand also want to my character look like he'sworking in a kitchen environment not a factoryor lab station ,also what about a sushi bar style of conveyor belt to go with the resturant or in even in a canteena so the busy people can grab what they want and also maybe be tempted by the other offerings going past.

To further expand on the outside idea, wouldnt it be cool if we could have a BBQ grill pit? Id love to have a Q with all my friends attending while i Q'd some grub up

I'd love to see this, either as a new building or as a revamp to the existing player cantina. Maybe a cantina can keep the same floorplan as now, but get an elevator in one of the back corners, which leads to a "kitchen" downstairs.


Realistically, though, it would probably be a while (if ever) for something like this to get added. Right now, the design of structuresis they are all either (A) ones you go inside (houses, guild halls) or (B) ones that do things (factories, harvesters). Combo structures that can do both A & B would probably be a bit complicated to add into the game.


Although.....maybe we can get the architects to petition for a "mini factory" furniture item. Small output (room for 10 items), does not crate items and slower production time than full ones, but able to be placed in a building like any other furniture. This would let you make up a component schematic, run off two (or three, or however many you need), use those to make a final-item schematic. Then you can go to your big factory and do off two runs with less back and forth. Although the fact that you're not using up a lot and still getting limited facytory functionality might be a problem.

hell yeah. That is a great idea. My chef would love it..maken food in the kitchen in a restaurant seems real to me.

I cross posted this to the architect forums, and their correspondant replied, and liked the idea as well.. in fact they are tossing around the idea of makeing several different structures to accomidate each of the crafting professions.. I sure hope that this idea gets a little dev lovin', I sure would be excited to see this happen! Should I start a petition? Anyone think its an idea that is worth getting THs attention? I would like to hear the other chefs opinions on this, thanks. =)

I think it would be interesting for architect products to have an "optional" ingredient kind of like our food additives. Structures like a cantina could have a "kitchen" component for features described above OR a "dance studio" to enhance the entertainment aspect of a cantina. Not really trying to flesh out those specific ideas here, but something to that effect that would create some differentiation among buildings like we can do with food.

I think additional optional components that require choices to be made by the crafter would allow for much more flexibility and creativity in player products in general.

I like this idea as well. Instead of introducing a number of new structures, allow existing structures to be customized through the use of components. Architects can then provide more flexibility in their stock, and tailor buildings to the desires of their owners.


And, it'd give a reason to have multiple cantinas, medical centers, merchant structures, etc. in player cities.

id love to see restaurants around,right now best i have is a food crafting station in my basement with some cheap looking imitation counters made of the small toolchests

Cool idea.


I'd like the existing Cantina modified, or given the option to be upgraded, instead of a new structure:


- Small included Factory

- Storage room/basement to put crates, though I enjoy piling crates up by the bar so people can yell at me to put them on the vendor

- When Factory/Kitchen in use, smokestack should start blowing smoke above Cantina, showing folks that food was cooking!

- Ability to drop some tables/chairs outside would ROCK

My reasoning for not wanting to have the chefs mini-factory (oven) in the existing cantinas is that I dont want to have to compromise the items in the cantina with the amount of items that I will need to be able to craft as a chef. I proposed the Restaurant idea so that the hard working Chefs of SWG dont have to share a PC structure with a dancer or musician, that would like to use the available items space on decorateing their cantinas..
