Thread: Should I become a chef?
Hey all,
I dont visit the chef forum much because I just lately decided to pick up a crafting prof because it seems as though that is whatI enjoy doing more than hunting.
But I am aware of the food stack bug and other competition out there like the doctor's buff kind putting chefs in the shadows.
I think I would enjoy the chef prof but someone called it a hobby prof and another said the only way to gain chef xp is to have your customers eat your food next to you. I dont know much about this prof so hopefully I can be enlightened here,
Do any of you recommend me becoming a chef with the known problems?, or do most of you encourage me to try another crafting prof?
I just read that the food stack bug will be fixed, this nudges me to likening the chef prof even more,
any thoughts?
Chef seems to be a good profession to dabble in, not nessaily mastering. If you have a guild or friends who have a demand for the chef output, then by all means there's a reson for it. But otherwise, I'd say be carful on how into it you go. I personally am only shooting for the sunburn level and using the rest of my SP's on rifleman and Musican.
considering chef is like putting your kids(male part) in a waffleiron
If you're looking for a lucretive profession the answer is no, However if you're looking for the coolest profession, then the answer is a definent yes. Chefs are probably one of the most useless classes out there Right now, but this also makes them the coolest.

Well if you want to make lots of things sure
It's fun! If you want your things to do anything (buff/use-wise) I'd strongly suggest picking the Experimentation line and one of the actual food lines. You may not have as much experimentation as a master but things you do make will be close. You could do 1/2 entrees 1/2 mixology so you could do foods and drinks (more RP oriented) or you could do all of one and just use food/drinks from the domestics lines. If you want to make any money at all though you will want Tat Sunburns in Mixology.
Tailors make a lot of things too
and their experimentation (if they still have it?!) doesn't do anything - I've often thought about picking up Tailoring.
You might want to pick up Master Artisan - powerups can be made by them (or anyone with Eng 4) and can be good money. There are a lot of neat things you can make too, some even make money hehe like droid batteries.
Anyway, there's some thoughts ![]()
Thanks for the info, i actually did master artisan, but move skill points around to accomodate master fencer and some CH stuff. I'm still on the fence about how to proceed. I'm just considering a career change and my character is addicted to sunburns. So it's either I become a chef and satisfy my cravings, or check into rehab. I guess what I like about crafting is taking the trips out to the middle of nowhere looking for supplies. I'm not looking to make a lot of money.
I do role play to the extent of the cooking column in artisan, but even some well made air cakes can go a long way. In real life I spent a lot of time bartending before swapping career pathsinto computer programming. As for tailor, that seems cool too.I plan to open a store/tent (not sure how those work yet, I just know I like them)out in the middle of Dathomire at some point. I plan to sell hand crafted food and clothing items ("I bought this jacket 400 meters from the science outpost on Dathomire" - line of apparel), plus stimpacks and armor at a reasonable markup since I will be reselling items I buy elsewhere...
Soeven though I'm not looking to make a lot of money, or any for thatmatter since Iwon't really be in a high traffic area, I just like the idea of selling something that chances are, players will buy when they stop in. After all, if the buff is the right price, wouldn't you buy it?
So I gather that if I just got to mixology 2 and made sunburns that they would not give a good buff without having some of the experiment line?
