Thread: A question from someone considering pursuing Chef

I'm currently a DE who wants to make things to enhance people's skills, and it doesn't look like I'll be able to do that with DE anytime in the near future. I'm thinking of switching to Chef. I know there are some big changes planned to this profession (and I'm sorry I haven't completely caught up on all the threads here yet), but I'm wondering if I should start as a Chef now, or if I should wait until the changes go live to start picking it up.

Any suggestions?

Hmmm. There are two sides to this as I see. From what I understand (Im not a test chef), the amount of exp you will receive while grinding the early level boxes has been reduced hugely which will make the actual grinding process much much slower post patch.

However, most of the chefs are concerned about what this update will actually do to us as a profession. The items which we currently sell are being removed from the line. Mind buffs have always been where the sales lie for the chefs... and although some of the new schematics are nice... they need a great deal of tweaking

Also with the changes to the stomach, meaning foods can't be eaten anywhere near as often as they currently can, people are concerned as to whether there will really be much demand for us after the patch.

This isn't purely a "profit" issue. Its plain and simply that every crafter wants to feel wanted, people had finally started buying food ona large scale and no one wants to make things that just wont sell.

I cant really give you an answer. I would suggest that you read carefully through the proposed changes before you make up your mind, then if you do decide to go ahead, try and get through those early boxes before the patch

Read VERY carefully through the proposed changes, and consider what all the new items really do. I, personally, love the changes, but most people disagree with me.

I'd say go for it, we can always use more Chefs.

ditto what they said. One important addition tho. Currently at novice chef there is a 70exp grind item. Currently on test the best grind item is 20 exp. In addition the drink that you will (most likely) grind the rest of chef with now has no components but after patch you will have to make 2 components before you can make the drink. In its current form, there are heavy penalties for waiting to grind until after patch.

Thanks for the feedback. It sounds like I should start working on it now if I decide to go Chef, but I'm finding it difficult to give up my first mastery (well, Ok, Master Artisan was my first mastery, but only because it was very much needed for DE).

I'll keep reading through the proposed changes and try to make my finger click the surrender button for MDE.

Just do it - I did it, too Droid Engineer is and will remain to be a broken and rather pointless profession. It will take at least half a year until they'll start to think about added functionality rather than combat droids useable by that new Droid Master class only... then again the Space Expansion will probably push that back even further.

Abandon DE as the Devs did. Only a miracle can save *that* profession.
