.On nearly all the other MMOs I've played, I have been allowed several characters on the same server. I suppose that sort of complaint could be its own thread.

These has been discussed many times. Multiple chars on the same server will cause to many imbalances in the economy they say (lots, exploits, interdependencies(spelling?) between profs)
They will never alow it.
Especially since they can get people to sign up twice and pay twice as much. When I think about it however I spend $15 a week on lates, so another 15 a month isn't too bad.
What you really need is two computers so you can have both the BE and Ranger hunt together and double harvest. Even then you'll never meat you meat demand. 
Seriously though, the price of meat will be insane soon.
