Thread: My first run of foods what do you think
For a first run, that's good stuff
Certainly better than my first attempts at those foods.
Pricing is soooo different from server to server, you can only really ask advice from people on the same server as you. So you might wanna add that to your profile, or at the least, tell us in this post ![]()
competing with 12 point masters is a myth.
Roughly 20% of people actually, actively seek out the "best on the server" and shop there religiously. The other 80% will buy whatever is closest to them.

Sarcasm aside, I think that assessment ignores several other important factors, namely, brand-loyalty, price, and stock.
The players in my guild / city / RP cicle / customer base tend to gravitate to shops that are stocked - a continuously stocked shop, run by a friendly player gets its WP passed around, even if the prices and quality are not high-end. I had a pet architect in a nearby RP city, at whose shop I probably spent five million credits over the past year, and to whom I'd probably given a hundred customers by referral - I was utterly bummed when he went out of business. I didn't go because he had 12-point experimentation, nor because his shop was close. With shuttleports and speeders, 'close' doesn't seem to matter a whole lot; what matters is that the customers knows you'll have what he wants. I will say that you can't really get away with charging a lot if you're scrimping on quality, and that's where the 12-pointer fits in. Those two extra points go a LONG way to rounding out a product and making it worth 100k more than Bubba the Holochef next door to the customer's house - that's not a myth, it's a mathematical fact. Brandy that runs out after 35 minutes just doesn't cut it, and it's the Average-Joe PvMers who care most about that.

I was trying to encourage you. See... here's the way I see it. Many Chefs come here to get started and all they see is the cream of the crop... they see 12 point chefs deconstructing recipes, comparing their best, and dropping their profit amounts. What I'm saying is that there is nothing wrong with wanting to run with the big boys, it's certainly possible, but chances are a new chef won't have the means to compete for a long time. Older Chefs have had months and months of not only accumulating wealth, but contacts and resources. You may get a good schematic off once but you'll probably have trouble competing. So don't be afraid to set your sights a little lower for the time being. While some Chefs have 5-star diners, I like to think of myself as more of an Applebee's
Decent food at a fair price. I run a cantina in a 100+ resident crafter city, I have about 5 other Chefs in town, one of whom can bake circles around me, (Xegony)yet I still pull in a fair bit of business. I don't think I step on Xeg's toes because she appeals to the uberleet crowd, I appeal to the grinders and the lower budget crowd and we co-exist just fine ![]()
Disclaimer here.. I don't go out of my way to make crappy food. (Ido still crank out+32 Veghash, +650 Canapes, +380 42min Brandy, stuff like that... )I just found my niche, not saying I strive to be a professional slacker. Between 4 accounts tho I just don't have the time or the means to be a Chef 100% of the time, so I gave up all illusions of grandeur a while ago. I'm happy to be a well-known short-order cook ![]()
I also give away a lot of free stuff. A lot. That helps. Free stuff is like bacon, everybody loves bacon.
