New chef, massing resources for grind and I'm almost done with them.
Question:
What should I pay for HIGH quality berries (IE 800< all stats)
??
well, on average.

Anything that is current spawn - 4cpu max, whatever people tell you
After it's out of spawn, well - just do the math for what you want to produce with it and see how much of your profit you're willing to cut into.
Take brandy for example. Rough costing is 1.4K for the BSN, 250cr for the trim, 80cr for the alcohol, 60cr for the water and 450cr for the gemstone. Total probable outlay so far 2,240cr each.
If you can buy fruit and berry that you know will let you sell it at 8,000cr per brandy, then you just have to decide how much of the 5,760cr difference you want to spend on the flora at 40 per brandy.
flora at 5cpu = 200cr per brandy.
flora at 15cpu = 600cr per brandy.
It just doesn't make that huge a difference as long as your sale price is high enough.
Our chef makes good brandy and sells at 4,000cr per Brandy, but that's because I'm a BE and can make the additive for her at cost. (and she'd probably divorce me if I didn't...)
If I hunt the meat for her additives personally, instead of buying it, then the total cost of our BSN is about 240cr (for good, current spawn flora at 4cpu) but I rarely have the patience to hunt meat and I can normally manage a +85 with meat I buy at 15cpu or so and make the base BSN cost 540cr.
Problem only arise when I can't get reasonably priced meat *grins*

It is really server dependant. You really have to figure out how much it cost you to make a product. Anything after your break-even point is profit. I usually figure high quality resources to be 20-25cpu when doing my formula and stuff that makes the sub-componets at 2cpu. This will give you a rough idea of your cost. I guarantee that it will not be as much as you are thinking of charging!

well, the guy that has like 800,800,900 berries wont sell to me cuz I dont have more than 200k to spend on the berries at 25 cpu >_<. I think I'm just gonna spend a few days massing money from janta missions to finance like a million credits worth of berries.

Ugh, I understand they are great berries, but you're going to burn through them and at 25cpu, you could sell slightly lower quality brandy till you can find a good spawn of your own and probably have better profit margins in the long run. I have never paid more than 12 cpu for a harvested resource - I personally think you'd be better off getting together a fleet of harvestors for the next good spawn and using what you can find for less than about 10cpu for getting started.

I'd agree totally with you there, tho berries on farstar are so **edit**ty its beyond belief, the last good spawn we had was ages ago, i think around december time. I've managed to get 150k of them but they weren't cheap for the most part.
But if you can be patient enough then i'd follow the advice given above.

well, yesterday I reported having only 200k.... I have gathered 1million credits (janta missions) last night, so you guys think it would be worth it to buy 40k berries at 25cpu? or should I try to bargain for cheaper or? cuz on bloodfin the standard price for these berries (VERY NICE BERRIES) is like 25cpu, and thats all I'm finding.
bargain vrs buy them and do janta missions to get more money.

hm.... doing some math here, it would cost 625k for 40k berries (enough for a full factory run of brandy right?)
if I sold each crate at 100k I'd make 2.5mil total from it, if I paid 1mil for ALL the other components I'd have a 875k profit which isnt too bad for the first run of berries is it?

Well for the berries you need 20 per brandy, so its 500 per crate. I think the max amount of crates you can make in 1 schem due to the alcohol and the casks and BE adds is 20 crates (roughly, i think its exactly like 22 crates and a half lol).
So you need 10k berries for 1 run of brandy. so you have around 4 runs of brandy from these berries. At 100k a crate its around 8 million, lets say the other stuff for each run cost 1 million (which i don't think it will be that much, only thing here is the gemstone for the casks) and that nets you 4 million.
They're all very loose figures and its baring in mind you may not sell it all and whatever but i think it worth it, and you may aswell go for it, 625k in all honesty isn't that much to risk.

plus, I can make that much in a night with janta missions. AND I'm making decent money off of 4 fusion power dealies I got running. I could sacrifice the rest of my lots for harvesters, and track the best berries but that would really be annoying to manage them and all. but that would cut costs. i reckon I'm just gonna buy the berries and have a stockpile of good berries until the next harvest comes around.

You need 20 units of berries and 20 units of fruits. Seperate things i'm afraid.
