Due to cantina's being 5 lots, which in reality, is unsustainable for most Chef's due to the sheer number of harvesters & factories we use, I have always promoted the introduction of something along the lines of Cafe's, outdoor restaurants, and "hot dog" stands for chefs.
It's OK for entertainers to place Cantina's - they have no real use for their lots, but as a high turnover crafter, I personally use over 40 lots most of the time, so a cantina, no matter how nice an idea, is a no-no for me :/
Oh, I'm fatgit btw, the fatgit acct is going inactive

The other night I did a roleplay setup for a friend who wanted to impress an ingame date. I did an entire dinner for them, and served it to them at a private table. It was a lot of fun. He is under the opinion that I could actually go into business doing this fulltime for roleplayers....taking reservations and offering a full service dining experience. I am considering doing it.

Do you guys think that a resteraunt type theme to a food/drink shop would be a cool idea? like, a counter and a few vendors behind the counter wearing aprons and chef hats, a few tables with some chairs to each table. on the tables would be various food items that fit into the enviornment, such as pikkita pie named pizza, and breath of heaven named Pepsi or Sprite.
anyone dig this idea?

It is an idea that has been around...but you can always change it up, y'know? Don't just put food on the table...rename your stuff, decorate differently. As long as you enjoy it - doesn't matter how much it's been done up before. I like the roll play idea stated by the poster ahead of me. I wish I had time to do that with my restauarant. I own a sushi restaurant with my bf in game and there's a sushi counter where you can see the food in the little windows at the bar...and there's tables for people to sit at if they don't want to sit at the sushi bar. There's vendors who act like "regulars" around the place. I got chefs behind the bar who bow when you come in and a sake waitress to serve drinks. There's a cool aquarium inside too...and a shoji door! (for those who are Japanese) No one may ever come by...but it's still fun for me! So I say do it and have fun with it. there can never be too many restaurants if you ask me.
maybe one of these days I'll satisfy the roll players and start taking reservations and playing "live"...but I'm afraid I'll get some real hard cores ordering sushi I have NO IDEA about. LOL. Good luck to you!

LOL....I hear you. Well if you DO decide to to it, or if I do, we need to start a thread on it to share ideas.
In a nutshell, here is how I approached it:
First, I created a backpack with large stacks of nearly every resource and premade subcomponent. This is fairly easy, and only takes up about 30 spots.
When they arrived, I greeted them at the door and invited them inside. Imade the structure private so we wouldnt have uninvited guests.
I took them into a large room I had decorated for the occasion. There was a large table and two chairs, plenty of candles and paintings. There is plenty of food and drink on the table, but it is more for decoration.
They take their seats, and I explain the ground rules, namely, THERE ARE NONE. I told them to order whatever they liked. Anything they desired. They both ordered some Iced Tea. Sooo....I go into the kitchen I had made for myself in another room and I craft two SPICED Teas on the spot, then rename them "Iced Tea". I walk back out, and serve it to each of them by offering it to them free of charge through the trade window, usually accompanied with a "Your drink Madame....." beforehand.
Give them some time, and inform them of the specials this evening, and ask that they simply send call for me when they are ready to order. I leave the room and simply wait by the front door. Since I can still see all the spatial chat, the instant they call, I can come in. She orders a Chicken Potato and a broccoli. He orders a Steak, baked potato, and a salad. Now comes the fun part....
I leave the room again and head to the kitchen. I scroll through the food available, and simply find ones that look similiar to the requests. Synthsteak for the steak, Thaktillo for the boccolli, protato for the baked potato, etc. I simply make them on the spot, and rename them to suit the order. This entire process takes about 4 minutes or so. Not long at all. In the meantime they are gabbing up a storm and enjoying themselves. I return, serve the meals to them and allow them to eat in privacy, with a reminder to save room for dessert. Dessert is handled in exactly the same way.
Price was discussed and agreed upon beforehand, but I suppose I coule make out a check in email and send it to the person paying once the meal is over. But I think most will want to have a set fee.
Anyway, that is what I did. It was a blast.

Of course I did. LOL. I may be a Chef.....but I am not a stupid Chef.
My cost for the evening was about 8k in food materials, plus about 5 hours worth of preparation. I had to create the entire atmosphere from scratch, including all the furniture ( I had the paintings ). So that cost another 200k.
My total take for the evening was 500k. So I made 292k for the event in profit, or 56.4k per hour.
The thing is, I now have all the supplies in stock. I could set up the entire event in under one hour, and the events last about an hour. I wouldnt charge as much, more likely I would charge about 250k for a two person event, which would net me roughly 240k per event, or 120k per hour.
120k per hour is not bad. Especially considering how much fun it was. Heck, If I did only two of these a week, That would mean an extra 2 million a month in pure profit......and it is a HELL of a lot more fun than crafting.

I can't believe you decorated from scratch! whoah - impressive custom order if you ask me. Please do! I think it would be great if things like this started happening more often. I mean, its not something that you would do every night, but it is still something you could expect return business for. Right now money is not incredibly hard to come by ingame, so I think that we could easily price events like this at a level that makes it attractive for the customer and profitable for us.
The only thing I ask if you decide to do anything like this is that you post info about how it went, what ideas you came up with, etc. I know that I would love to hear how others ran similiar events.
