Thread: A few questions from a new Chef

1) You can still make great food as a 10pt Chef. Just harvest the best resources you can. and sell your stuff for less than the competition. Your brandy is fine, although I am betting that the reason the hit is only +350 is because of your resources, not your experimentation. Look for better stuff, although that brandy should still sell well for the right price.

2) Talking prices cross servers is rough to do, so I will skip that part of the question. Too much variation from server to server. BUT.....I can speak to the other part of your question....

Mainly, look for High PE/OQ....as in +850 or better in both. Every point of PE is worth TWO points of OQ to a Chef, so keep that in mind. DR and FL are also important, but as long as you can get them around 500 or so, you can experiment the filling and duration up to where you need it (for Brandy that is, other foods require high stats in DR and FL). You also want your additives to be the best you can get. The quality of the additives varies dramatically from server to server, but keep an eye out for anyone with a Master BE tag and start sending out tells asking what their BSNs and INNs are currently at. The duration on your brandy is already at 44m, and that is good. You want to get as close to 45m as possible, with your fill at 50. You can get fill lower for brandy, but its usually not worth it to waste experimentation points to do it. So the only thing in your brandy that is lacking is the power. Start looking for berries and fruits with high PE/OQ, and BSN's rated 84 or higher. Those will help you get over +400 on the power.....and anything over +400/44m can be sold at premium price.

3) Ehh......there has been a lot of discussion about the best way to experiment.....whether to use the "one-point-at-a-time" method, or some other way. In my experience, its kind of a tossup. If you throw several points in on different stats, it raises the possible failure rate.....BUT.....if you get an amazing success with a high failure percentage, your rewards appear to be much greater. I usually do a couple points at a time, unless I am feeling lucky and decide to go for it just to see whatr happens. However, until you get some SEA's/CA's for Food Assembly, I would go with try doing 3 points at a time or lesson one stat at a time. Really, its up to your own preferrence. BUT......do your experimenting as FAR AWAY from heavily populated areas as possible. Being in a research center is fine, as long as there are not many people around. I say this because lag has been positively connected with critical failures and success rates for experimentation.

4) I usually will make at least 10 tries at a schematic until I pick one that I am satisfied with. The more that you cook, to more you will come to recognize where are particualr stat should be with the resources you have. For instance, if I am making Brandy, and I get two amazing successes and end up at +440 for 45m30s, well......I pretty much know that is what I will use. But I will always make a few more just in case. It doesnt cost that much to do it, and if you get one that is below your expectations, you can still make it into a prototype and give it to one of your buddies. Thats what I do. I must have three backpacks full of decent-but-not-exceptional food singles sitting around.

Hope this helps man. Just get yourself a vendor set up, come up with some creative names for your food, always put your name on your food so people remember you, and price the stuff to MOVE. You should be able to undercut nearly every Chef nearby and still make a healthy profit. Once your stuff starts getting really good, you can bring the prices up, and your customer base will stick with you as long as you keep your vendor stocked and your prices fair.

Hi again,
I read through the FAQ at the top but I don’t fully understand a few things, and I don’t have excel. Is there a listing of the excel stuff in the FAQ in like a notepad format? I just got master chef, and can’t afford all the CAs and stuff for 12 points yet. I did get the apron, but that doesn’t give me any extra points. Ok on to the questions:

1.Can I make anything good without the 12 points? Something that might make me money to get the CAs? I made brandy the other day but it turned out +350 for 44m.

2.When you guys make brandy what are the biggest stats on the berries/fruit you look for, or is it combined stats like berries must be over 3600 total to be good? I saved up a little money and realy want to make something good. The last two times I had money I bought stuff I though was good and couldn’t make anything good out of it. What are the stats like of the stuff you are using right now to make brandy, and how much do you pay for it?

3.A friend gave me some Bespin Port and Pyollian Cake that helps me make better stuff. So I take a cake before I start crafting then when I get to the experiment screen I use a Bespin Port and put in one point and repeat till all my points are gone, right? Is there anything else I can do to help? I craft in a research town, next to a 44.39 station with a 15% tool.

4.When you guys make food do you make like 50 items till you get all good or better results? Or whats a good method to use?

Thanks for any help!!!

1) You need to realize almost everyone starts out chef at 10 points. You can certainly make decent foods, you just might need to get more amazings or lower your price. People still will buy 10 point Brandy. They are not going to pay a 12 point brandy price though. There is a huge profit margin on some foods though. You can technically sell brandy for 300c per stack or less if you harvest everything yourself. Obviously you would be better off just selling the materials but you should see the point there.

2) DR on the fruit and berries must combine to make 49 filling(Some say 50, I like 49 as it allows for 1 minute less duration). Rest of the 3 are harder to say. I must get to 44-45 minutes. After that I must not run out of room to experiment buff size up. I don't like 47 minute brandy because that means the buff size could have increased with better PE and OQ. PE is probably the most important as you will probably have 5-7 points to spend on buff size.

3) Don't use the cake IMO. All it does it cause less failures. Loseing 1 foods worth of ingredients isn't that big of a deal when you make 1000 at a time. Port is useful, but you will run out of stomach before you get an amazing schematic probably. I don't use it, but it can't hurt. Assembly skill tapes are about the only other thing that might help.

4) I have standards for each food. These are just found out from how I am able to experiment on them. If an amazing 7 points and 5 greats make some food that is my minimum. If 12 greats work, that is all I need. I have gone through 25+ tries sometimes getting an amazing the first experiment of 7 points and then 5 greats. I go until that happens usually.

Also the way i coped with starting and there being so many things i could make was to just focus on a few foods to get myself on my feet. The ones i choose were Brandy, Ahrisa, Canape and Synthsteak.

It makes it easier to look for just a few resources to start with till you get a big stock pile built up.

Most important tho is to enjoy it and always try and be helpful to your customers, they appreciate it and you will stick in there head as being nice and you may get some repeat custom.

Hope it goes well and good luck.
