I am a chef/tailor/politician/merchant obviously no skill points on this character. I do however have an alt that has some available skill points, but not enough to master BE. Is the experimentation necessary at master in order to make decent additives(light, med.,heavy nutrition)? Or do you often find yourself with experimentation points left over at master? I know resource quality is a must, but assuming the minimum 2400 meat.
If my knowledge of BE is lacking please forgive me, it is something that never interested me. However, Corbantis is rather lacking in Master BE's that aren't another chefs alt so I feel that I am left with no choice, but to explore this option.

First, you won't be able to make Heavy Nutrition additives. That is a Master BE schematic.
Your mediums will be slightly limited. When I wasn't a master I could do 80-81% additives usually, and up to 83% with very nice resources(resources that would probably make 86% or higher).
You really only need 8-9 points for making tissues. The issue with non masters is you only have 7. The tissues are still very useful. For brandy for example your only droping 2-3 buff points for every %. So even a 6% drop is only 12-15 points I believe.
The biggest issue for me was the heavy nutrition additive though. This makes +25 bivoli impossible(You will max at about +21, maybe +22 with mediums) and puts canape in the 600s range instead of the 700s. Canape didn't bother me much as I used mediums for a few months even after I was a Master. I was annoyed with only +21 bivoli though.
So Master is preferred, but 0404(or whatever thetissue and experimentation lines are)BE is still extremely useful and well worth the skill points if you can't get Master.

I was afraid you would say something to that effect
At least I know that it would not be a completely wasted effort for those times when I am really having problems getting nutrients.
Thanks for the quick answer.
