Vasarian Brandy. Oh how we adore the wonderful stuff! What would life be like without it? After reading the new "Policies and Standards" applied recently to SWG, and being rather irritated by the clause regarding "harrassment" of CSRs (honestly who has ever been helped by these CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVES who habitually respond with cut/paste standments that are often irrelevant to the problem), but I have started to rant... anyways...

I cannot help but wonder if these policy writers, they so enamoured with "right and wrong" understand that Vasarian Brandy is the intellectual property of... Paramount. Paramount, as in "Paramount we OWN Star Trek".

Humourous for sure, Vasarian Brandy is mentioned in the opening scenes of the 2nd Star Trek: The Original Series episode "Charlie X", when Captain Kirk greets the officers of another Federation ship and inquires if the need any supplies, and asks them if they want any "Vasarian Brandy", towhich they decline.

I am not a lawyer. Perhaps exclusive use ofintellectual property expires after a certain period of time, however, since the episodes are appearing for sale on DvD and are not freely available on the internet (legally) I assume that the copyright is still valid. I suspect we had a "Trekker" on the staff who slipped this in to be funny. It is funny! =)

While funny, George Lucas would probably get sued if he used intellectual property of SOE. Again, I am not a lawyer, I've seen Star Trek and Star Wars intellectual property used liberally in other mediums, and given that the utterance of "Vasarian Brandy" once, in say 56 episodes is really not something that I'd file a lawsuit over.

However, why I write this post is simple; SOE is being rather harsh when it comes to dealing with certain people, not me specifically but my fellow players, who have violated their "Policies & Standards";at the same time are willing to overlook their own, even if very minor and very humorous, violations of federal laws.

I don't want Vasarian Brandy renamed. I just would like to see a kinder, gentler EULA and "Policies and Standards". This game is not all that wonderful, and well, taking a harsh stance on some players (Fight Club, Jedi, and Account Denialsfor example) is economical stupid. I also want better CSRs, they are really worthless.

Yes, I know that this has almost nothing to do with the CHEF profession. However, there isn't really any sort of "complaint" or "legal issues" board. I'm sure there are plenty of chef's who have had poor customer service, and chefs, like every other player, are bound to the same EULA and "Policies and Standards" as all other players. I'd like to thank the chefs, however, for letting me post my marginally relevant information on their board.

Anyways, these are some of the things that were on my mind.

It was Saurian Brandy in Star Trek. Step 1) Get facts straight, Step 2) Rant.

So this was just a case of someone hearing the wrong thing?...

Kinda like listening to a Jimmi Hendrix song, and hearing "'Scuse me, while I kiss the sky" and thinking it said "Scuse me while I kiss this guy" ?

Great example and there is a good reason. Phonetically, the /k/ in "sky" is the same sound as the /g/ in guy. Say "sky" real fast and then say it without the /s/. In English voiceless stops like /p,t,k/ are voiceless aspirates, meaning they have an h-like sound after them. If you say the word "kill", you can feel the puff of air after the /k/. But, if /p,t,k/ are preceded by an /s/, then there is no aspiration and it sounds like /b,d,g/. So if you say "sky", you do feel the puff of air after the /k/. In English, /b,d,g/ are really voiceless stops, they aren't voiced like they are in French or Spanish. So in English, /p,t,k/ = [pH, tH, kH] while /b,d,g/ = [p, t, k]. Sorry I just had to vent with my linguists degree. LOL. When I use the term "voicing", I mean the vibration of the vocal cords. Spoken very fast, "the sky" sounds very much like "this guy".

oh phooey, who needs to get their facts straight before ranting about SOE/SWG.

if a game can last 18 months in a pay-beta stage without a combat model, i can be wrong once this decade.
