Thread: A question on Pikatta Pie / Air Cake

I was kind of debating this with a guild mate earlier, and now I'm curious.

These 2 foods have listed as their attributes: x% to dodge an attack

Previously I've always regarded this as a modifier bonus, looking at how the food charts describe them. The question came up about how this actually figures in with people who already have a modifier for dodge from skills like pistoleer and fencer. Now I realize that +125 is the maximum modifer for dodge, but I do not know how that figures into actual percentage to dodge an attack, or whether that is meant to be the percentage (125% chance seems kind of flaky to me, even overlooking the set % that all dodge's will fail anyway). And I'm also not positive to whether these foods add to the modifier, or to the percentage. Going by the ingame description it seems percentage.

Anybody out there able to clarify on this?

During the defense stacking fix around the first of '04, dodge was changed so that "unhittable" templates were again hittable. The devs capped melee/ranged and profession-specific defenses at 125. They also removed pikatta pie, air cake, and center of being from increasing the same dodge mod, which is what was happening when folks became unhittable. With 250+ dodge mod, a person was a walking deity. Now, we have a normal dodge mod that is capped at +125 if you have fencer and +20 from SEAs which shows up in your combat spam as "evades the attack". We have center of being (all melee profs have center of being, notjust fencers and pistoleers that can "evade")which adds a separate roll and increases the chances that an attack "misses you." We also have a mod for dodge food that increases your chances that an attack "misses you". Dodge food is essentially a food that adds a new roll to your defenses that increases the likelihood that an attack will miss you completely. The description for dodge food is incorrect, it does not increase your chances to dodge at all, itis not profession specific and can be extremely helpful for ranged attackers when getting beaten on by highly accurate melee fighters.

Regarding your real question of how much it helps you in not taking damage, I have never seen anyone that could pull those numbers out. I wish the devs would publish how this stuff works as many of us are curious.

As far as I know its a straight percentage that an attack will "miss you".

So, to complicate things.

If the enemy's attack roll is good.

AND your dodge mod fails.

AND you have air cake or pikatta pie active.

Then the percentage listed in that buff will be the chance that the attack will "miss you".

Thats how I understand it at least.

The description is correct, but it is misleading because of the mod called dodge. In a sense your guy is dodging the attack, it just doesn't stack with the fencer/pistoleer mod, or CoB.

Doesn't stack meaning they're separate, but they can both function simultaneously.

But I haven't done any testing, this was just my understanding on how it all fit together.
