the annoying part is also this:
SOE fixing the error message when the factory bugs, instead of fixing the actual bug. SOE at work guys.
It's extremely annoying, not only the mess of having to empty and redeed a factory, and the lost time in doing so... but also the loss of resources/items due to it.
I vote for fix, even though i know it'll probably never happend.

Having enlisted the help of several Floridians, we've decided that it's now one vote for A. Surprising, that.

YES I REALLY HATE THIS BUG.
But here is a fix guys, you don't have to redeed your factory, just simply take everything out of the output hopper and restart the factory and you will be good to go. It cuts down our production time with this bug but that fix works.

I used to do the "empty output hopper and restart" trick, but lately even that doesn't work effectively.
Before starting this story, yes I know about power, maintenance, and actually having the materials in the ingredient hopper. I had a run that stopped with only 20 crates in the output hopper. I didn't have the room in my inventory, so I just dragged them into the ingredient hopper and restarted it (like I've done hundreds of times). I didn't bother filing a bug report at this point because this is normal gameplay now (hmmm, kind of sadI'veaccepted that).
10 crates later I get a message that the factory has stopped producing items and that I should create an ineffectual bug report. This time I do because it stopped even less than before which is kind of strange.
Things work fine...for 5 crates. File another bug report, move items into ingredient hopper (this hopper had about 50 items in it). Restarted it and -- surprise -- it failed again, but this time with 2 crates.
For grins, I file another bug report, remove the 2 items, and restart it. In a supreme example of engineering efficiency, I get 1 crate before the factory slams to a halt. File another bug report and try to restart it. This time, it won't even produce one item. Of course, another bug report and a CSR ticket. Counting my other factories, I've submitted 8 bug tickets that I can recall on this issue.
That is the worst example, but it seems to have affected most of my factories. The canned CSR response said something about not putting strange items in the factory (like couches and such) and to try and redeed. Funny thing is, the worst of my factories never had anything in it except for materials. Some of the older factories have at one time or another had non-ingredient items in there for storage, but this factory is relatively new and I know it's had nothing but materials in there.
Not only is production being affected, but I've lost several thousand units of materials (even more so in credits) in the last few days. It's to the point where I don't want to run the factories on expensive items (like +117 additives or worse yet final products that use these additives).
I don't believe our voting here will make any difference and that the devs should recognize by now that there is a newer, more serious problem out there. I actually didn't mind pulling out materials halfway through runs because I could stock vendors more quickly, start up new runsin other factories, etc., but this new problem is progressive and doesn't have an easy workaround (except to redeed?).
Anyone else encountering the problem I described or am I just special? Gotta go, my short bus is here...

Nope, this is exactly the thing I'm getting, which is why I've dubbed it "the new and improved factory bug". What seems to be the problem is that as downtime has been cancelled, factories output hoppers are no longer reset. If server has been down, your factory should do it's "normal bugged run" of 60-90%. As servers are no longer coming down... it keeps halving the amount allowed in the output hopper until you reach 0 and then you get to wait for server to crash.
I'm completely disgusted that nothing has been done about the bug to begin with and that the issue has just gotten worse, yet still gets ignore. "Redeed your factories"? I'm surprised I wasn't told to update my drivers or delete my char and start over.
To me this bug seems to almost personify the problem SOE has atm: complete indifference to customers, as long as they by expansion packs and pay monthly fees.

Oh, can I make that 3 votes for fix? Ie, 6 Idaho votes or 9 Floridian ones?

Hello all,
I've reached near critical on the new and improved factory bug, which is currently affecting 15 factories, across three of my chars. I've now been told to: Empty input and output hoppers, redeed and restart. (Oh, and to ensure I've got power in my factories. After 10 months of AS/Chef, I think I've worked that one out).
So here's my poll:
Which is more reasonable:
a) SOE actually fixing the factories that are broken due to their coding and have been broken since launch? (And cost their customers resources each time they stop)
b) Reinstating daily downtime, even if just for 10 mins to reset factories? (This would make factories somewhat usable).
c) Asking their customers to log in all their chars and redeed their factories daily, which would take about two hours of my day and has no guarantees I can actually get my factories back down where they were?
Thank you for voting. If need be, I'll call Idaho and Florida for help with voting.

Beh this stinks... I suppose it could be worse though, food could be coming out of the crate with only one charge

so great... when you get in to check your factories, every single one of them is bugged.... with just 10 crates in the output hopper.
can't we get this issue to where it belongs? on the desk of a DEV with amessage ... "FIX IT NOW!"?
It's an issue for all crafters using factories... it's been around since beta.. ain't it about time it gets fixed?!
sciguyCO, ain't it possible for you to talk to some of the other crafting correspondances and maybe get them all to push for some sort of fix? Might work a bit better of there's 10 of you slapping them to fix this issue. As it has become much worse with the "no server restart" policy.

what do you do if your only option is to access the input and output hopper. after last run, there is no option to input a new schematic at all

I'm sure the only think that you'd be told to do was to redeed the factory and replace it. No guarantees it will go down in the same spot though. Great stuff, huh?
