Can someone clarify this for me? I thought that spices had better buffs, but also had terrible side effects (like possibly incapacitating you after usage) whereas food has no side effects. Is this wrong? It seems to me that if spices have side effects, there are going to be a lot of people who will go the safer route with our food.

Side effects in computer games are never very good deterents, I think. With the benefits that spice gives people will risk the side effects.

In beta Holocron said that
Food - Gives good buffs, last for hours and no side effects.
Spice - gives much better buffs, lasts for about 15 minutes and side effects.

This is what I would like to see them return to.

I agree those deterants are not working very well, come on... puking??

I'll do it right now.

I know I'm still just an artisan, but do foods or drinks every last for hours? Everything I've made lasts for a few minutes at most.

My feeling is...make it last (at the upper range for about 20 to 30 minutes. That way you still have a decent comsumption rate yet still giving good buffs that last a while. Tell you what...you tell a marksman or brawler "Yeah this'll buff your Action and Stamina pool for +150 for 30 minutes (No sideeffects)and you can use it 4 times. Just 500 cred per stack" and you'd have a hard time staying in stock.

I agree Rebl, one reason that I wont sell my food for 500 a stack because I think to myself, is this really worth 500 or am I just ripping this guy off?

279 seconds = rip off

30 minutes = bargain!

I dont think smuggler spices are limited to puke'ing. Once the effects run out you get the "downer" which comes with some nasty negative stat modifiers.

You mustn't forget, a player can fit 2 foods, and 2 drinks at a time, while only 1 spice. 2+2 = 4, and altogether they will give more effects if you experiment em right. Especially when spices are only one use per stack(And highly experimented foods can give modifiers over 200). The numbers on the food and drinks buffs guide are a bad guideline to look at since they're all unexperimented. Some stuff has stats go up very fast with experimentation while for other stuff its slower.

Food clearly owns spices. It's like comparing a good plate of spaghetti before a track meet with a line of cocaine... which would be preferable?

For me, the experimentation is a lot of the fun of being a chef right now. Not the crafting station experimentation, but the experimentation in finding out how good our really is. Although I would like to see food buffs have a longer duration, I don't want our class to get too powerful because then there will be a large influx of people wanting to become chefs (did I really just say that?). Another aspect of being a chef that I'm enjoying right now is being a rare class. I like hearing "You're the first chef I've seen."

As for spices, I've heard there are some that will incapacitate you after they wear off. That's a pretty harsh side effect.

The longest I've ever seenfood or drink last was about 10 minutes and that's with a domestic arts item with max experimenting.
