Thread: Chef Issue #436 Food distribution
Greetings Chefs,
All right, in light of more pressing issues (such as craptastic food stats, xp woes, etc)this may seem minor, but it'squite the nuisance in my opinion. I'm speaking of food distribution (apologies if someone already posted on the matter and I overlooked it).
Here's the scenario:
I walked intoa cantina last night, with a pack full ofedibles. It wasn't too crowded, but I was happy to see a couple of tables full of folks listening to tunes. I walk on up and ask if Ianyone would like a complimentary drink and snack, and recieve all favourable responses"Sure!" "That would be great!" and so on. Splendid!I pass a drink to the first person. Trade window finally pops up. I place some bread next to the charde and wait for acceptance. And wait.
I send a quick tell to avoid completely destroying the little RP groove...
/tell Bob hit accept =)
Bob tells you: There's nothing in the window.
Trade request times out.
/tell Bob It's there, even if they don't appear. Hit accept and they'll show up in inventory.
Bob tells you: oh ok.
Open a new trade window (naturally have to do this 3 or 4 more times because one ofus hit enter, or breathed on the computer, or a tree fell in Singapore, or whatever else causes trades to cancel). Finally get it done, and Bob graciously says "Delicious!" and tips me 100 creds.
Unfortunately, most other people around the tables have gone afk in the meantime. All trade requests unanswered. Head over to the dancer to hook her up with some sweet stamina bread. And go through the same 3 minute sequence as I did with Bob.
This...isn't cool.
I know the trade system will be looked at eventually, but even with bugs removed, I feel that Chefs need/deserve a unique methodto pass out our wares. Being limited to transactions is, well, too limiting.
Read this as class envy if you like but look at how some other service classes work...
Entertainers - /watch /listen the AFK entertainer. Love this.
Medics - Let them spot ya and they'll fix ya up. One doctor last night buffed my str by 97 as I walked by. Neat.
There's 2 ways (off the top of my head) that could remedy this...
A: Make food/drink items droppable. Anywhere. With anyone able to pick them up. Let us put food on the table in front of those hungry diners!
This of course, will never happen. So...
B: Add a "Serve" option to the radial menu of food/drink items. Click on it and it sends apopup to your target. "Reprobus would like to serve you Wastril Bread" Accept/Decline. Boom, trade done.
Particulars?
- Maybe it only works when the stack is down to 1. Clicking accept automatically consumes the item. (and yes UXP should apply!)
- Maybe it works on a stack with >1, and accept consumes 1, moving the rest into target's inventory.
- Or maybe it's just a straight trade. Tip me if you like.
- Won't work if target in combat. Though would be more exciting if it did! (/tell Popeye All out of spinach, but eat this Tatooine Sunburn and knock Bluto's a$$ to Lok!)
I'm not looking for a shortcut to avoid the nasty trade system. I'm looking for an option to stop the trade system fromhurting the chef profession. Itstill makes more sense to use a trade window to move more than one stack, especially if you're actually selling it to the customer. But being locked into that system when we want to provide a sample, or are RP'ing, or just hate the idea of destroying all that extra food, seems like something that should be looked at. Because as it stands, potential customers don't wanna bother.

Some very good points, and a few interesting ideas.
Personally, I'd settle for a vendor within the cantina that sells only food & drinks.
Perhaps it could even be given the atmosphere of a "menu" and a bartender to serve the items to prevent breaking up the RP feel.
One of the guys in my guild runs a "cantina" in his house. He has a vendor setup named "Bartender" that's standing behind a bar and sells food and drink.
They could do the same thing in regular cantinas, it would just be a local bazarre that only sells and accepts sales of food and drink, like you said.
That would be a good distribution method.
I suspect the devs might not like it, though, because it would detract from the need to have a personal store. If I can sell everything I need on a public vendor, why would I want my own store?
---
Bottom line to me is that if food was useful, you wouldn't have to pander your wares in a cantina like a cheap hooker, you'd have people walking 2km to your house to use your vendor, like they already do with weaponsmiths and armorsmiths. I have my favorite weaponsmith wapointed and walk forever to get to this vendor because he sells good stuff. I wouldn't do this for any food store because food is too tedious and not useful enough.
Fix the tedium of small stacks of underpowered buffs and the distribution will take care of itself.
"Fix the tedium of small stacks of underpowered buffs and the distribution will take care of itself."
So basically you want them to fix factories first, allowing you to make large stacks of underpowered buffs?
How about they fix buff's first, so everyone can sell foods with nice buffs, then fix it so now you can make large stacks of good buffs.
That makes more sense.
I have an idea - let's fix both! Large stacks of good buffs - weeeeeee!
Ya and the food distribution ideas are good.
Hehe. yah, that's why I'm kinda grumpy today...got dragged along to a photoshop class today...but it's like super boring and stuff i already know. (hence my exuberant trolling of the forums today)
I'll be on later tonight!
I think my priority had it right.
Large stacks of crap buffs are still better than small stacks of good buffs, given that the devs only decide to fix the #1 thing on everyone's list.
We do have SOME good buffs even now, but nobody wants them because small stacks are too tedious to deal with.
