Thread: Chef is currently the best profession...and here's why.

Hear me out on this before you quickly scan over my long rant, and submit erroneous responses that show me you obviously didn't read my post.

Currently, at the rate players are going, most of the professions have been mastered. Creature handlers are WAY overpowered, architects, droid engieners, and weaponsmiths have all been mastered, and most of them sit on a large sum of money. This game is being completed too quick...except for chef.

I do NOT believe that chefs should have lower experience requirements per tier, nor do i think they should be accuring experience ANY faster. In fact, i would be just fine if they made the experience ranks HIGHER (that is if they did it to all the other professions too). Here's my reasoning:

I too, get very frustrated and angered, bored, and tired of grinding and grinding. I have my fair share of posts of frustration and anger at the bugs, and unbalanced nature of the food and beverages WITHIN the chef profession. But because I HAVE put so much time and effort into my profession, those tears of wrist pains, and an empty wallet most of the time, turn into a joygasm of pride and accomplishment. EVERY BOX that i have gained has been a rough ride, but EVERY box has been more satisfying than previous one. I find it an HONOR to be a chef, and many people give great compliments and looks of astonishment when they see I'm a chef.

I for one do not want to have the experience tables made easier, for the straight fact that i HAVE worked so hard ALREADY, and my accomplishments that WERE significant...won't be as satisfying. I'd hate to see me put in 32k experience for a tier one box one week, only to find that it had been reduced a few weeks later.

Let's recap: Chef's seem to have the best exp accrue rate if you think about the longevity of the game. Many people will probably get bored as a master elite before we even reach our master profession. The chef status is something to be proud of, and to me at least, brings the most satifaction out of anything else. We play a large role in RPing, and cantinas just aren't the same with a bartender behind them. Everything we earn and make is treasured and satisfing, and when a customer leaves his regards to the chef, it's even better.
Not only that, but the CHEF community is quite a tight nit group. I know on starsider, we held a chef convention, where we discussed ideas, and tips, and how we can help eachother out. I personally stay in contact with most of the chefs on starsider that i know of on a daily basis, and we compare drinks, organics, locations, and even give eachother resources or money when we need help.

Am i a chef zealot? unquestionably.
Do i still have gripes? absolutely. There are many things that are broken in this profession, that would just be redundant to repeat here...however i keep a firm ground that the whole chef experience is currently the best in the game, and will only get better with future updates.

What about the buffs? you can' ttell me you think these are fair compared to spices. While i do agree with you on the progression being fine, some thing needs to be changed.

I see your point, andI like your post.

But personally, I feel very little sense of accomplishment when I know I had to GRIND to get there. There's no pride or honor in that. Grinding takes no skill, only time and money (well, better money = faster production). That is not an accomplishment.

I have to agree that I like the fact that this profession makes you work. Honestly if you walk around you see so many weoponsmiths, architects, and medics, quickly progressing their way through the tree. As a chef you can truely say you are unique and that it actually took some effort to be where you are. I think what most of us don't like, is that de-promotion to crappier foods when you level up. I think either making the buffs better, or making food some kind of required substance would improve our profession a great deal.

oh I just thought of this and wanted to add, I think because this profession is so difficult those of us who are here continue to do it for the love of being a chef, and the pride in what we do, rather than joe shmoe player who decides he just wants to make money.

I know that if it wasn't for the love of making food in game, I wouldnt have ditched out after earning my first 1000k of XP chef points.

How many of you do this profession because you actually love being a chef?

Using a shovel to move 10 tons of dirt 5 feet to the left takes a lot of effort.

That, alone, does not make it a satisfying experience.

I would get satisfaction from the Chef class if it produced something largely regarded as useful, like a medic or doctor. I didn't pick up Chef anticipating that it would be a slight variation on Image Designer. Becoming a Master Rifleman is an accomplishment. It takes a lot of effort (if you don't use a pet) and in the end you can do craploads of damage from longrange and deathblow people in PvP from 64 meters away.

Becoming a Master Chef right now is less useful than becoming a Master Entertainer. Even the few things you can make that are worth messing with can't be mass produced into a single, easily handled stack.

Potentially the best profession? Sure, okay.

Currently the best profession? You're not playing the same game I am.

"How many of you do this profession because you actually love being a chef?"

I do so far! (I know this icon is completely inappropriate here, but I thought it was funny and wanted to use it). I had originally planned on becoming an architect, but enjoyed the food crafting as an artisan, so I switched.

I do hope they make it easier to advance, but not too easy. I played DAoC for about a year and a half before starting SWG, and I think SWG is already (even with the bugs) a better game in that it is more immersive and complex. I don't like to hop from game to game, so I'm hoping I can stay in SWG for a while.

I do it because I love it. At the rate I'm going, it will take me forever and a day to get Master, but I'm having fun. I actually get excited when I see a new flora item spawn and I get to it and see the flavor is 989! Woot. LOL. This is a game, if I didn't love it, I wouldn't do it. I'm glad there are others here, too. I have learned from you and I hope to continue to do so.

The chef profession is the most fun out of any of the Roleplaying professions. It has the potential to be a moneymaker, and here's how: Catering. Get 2 chefs together on a server, and cater to parties by offering a down payment of 20k credits to cover costs, and serve drinks/food for 2-3 hours. You're bound to make a little profit on the 20k, and it's a fun experience. Very satisfying.

Rifleman is EXTREMELY easy to level, even if you dont' have a pet. (Although combat experience does come slow).

I was able to go up 3 boxes in the rifle tree in one day.

I do it because I love it. I have a combat character who I abandoned cause it was boring. Wandering around all over the place or doing destroy missions to kill critter after critter is boring. Hack and slash is boring, that's why I hated EQ.

I've set out to bea Tailor/Chef and dabble in furniture creation with the rest of my points. I want to interact with a community and try and get rp'ers around me. Yes, I realize that this combination will take me forever to master and exclude me from the GCW but I don't care,I love to make things, and with this combination I have a huge amount of schematics to toy around with.
