Thread: Proposal to Solve Eggs, Milk, and Meat difficulties.
First off...I in no way want to belittle the ability of the scout to collect meats, hides, or bone. I also play a scout, and would hate to lose this income.
However, here is my constant problem with the way meat, hide, and bone are collected and used, and the lack of use of eggs for things like Bread or Cake, and the total lack of milk. Lets think real life now! When you go to the store, you get neat little meat packages, some are formed already into burger patties, some just comes in a bulk chub of 5-8 lbs. You've seen it. Eggs come in the dozen, Milk by the gallon. Easy.
However, you KNOW there's not 10000000 people out there, randomly killing cows, or milking them, stealing eggs from chicken nests, then packaging that stuff. There is a PROCESS. It's a BUSINESS! The farmer usually dosen't DO much with the animals other than harvest thier products. They certainly aren't out on the range, rounding up chickens to take to the farm. They buy thier animals from handlers or breeders (in our case, CH's and BE's), stick the beast in thier pen, and go about thier way.
WE NEED A NEW STRUCTURE. Deed: A Bio-Barn.
Overview: The barn is simple. It needs no power. All it needs is animals, and the FOOD to make them stay alive, and keep producing products. Then when they are done, you go collect. Simple. An easy payment of any cereal (this is the grain that most farm animals eat), and a bit of water, and of course the animals, would be needed to make the factory work.
Functions:
1. Meat: Nope, if we put animals in, and slaughter them for meat, it puts our scouts out of business. However, it is far more diffucult these days to achieve huge stacks of particular kinds of meat for making crates of food for our customers. I have even taken out many of the recipes that call for them in my menu, simply because it's far too cumbersome to deal with. HOWEVER, if there was a way to INSERT the meat we buy in seperate stacks.....for example.
I put in 1200 Nabooian Carnivore meat, 500 Endorian Carnivore meat, and 300 tatooine carnivore meat. Push the 'process meat' button, and pow...over time, the bio-barn processes the meat into a 'Processed Carnivore meat, which takes on the average statistics of all meat that has been thrown through the grinder. Instead of having 2000 meat come out though, to save face for the scouts, we will lose meat in the process at a conversion rate of 2:1. (for those that don't know how to read ratios that means you need 2 'carnivore' meat, to get 1 'processed carnivore meat'.
2. Hides. Same thing. Convert the hides somehow at a conversion rate of 2:1, call it 'tanned <insert meat type here>', and average out the statistics by the hides that were used to create the 'Tanned Scaley Hide'. SIMPLE.
3. Eggs: Hello? Ever hear of a chicken coop? Farmers dont run around the countryside searching chicken lairs for eggs! They buy chickens stick them in the coop, and start collecting eggs. For users of the barn, we would have to buy chickens (a.k.a in star wars, nuna) and start feeding them to get them to lay them eggs! Then we could have the chickens die after a time, such as normal, and you need to buy more.
4. Milk: SAME AS EGGS! Insert various milk giving animals, and by feeding and watering them, they in turn let you connect the Milk-Extractors, and collect your milk. These creatures would also have a life span as well, HOPEFULLY a bit longer than the lifespan of a chicken. (lifespan of a chicken is far less than the average lifespan of say, a horse or cow.)
So, there's my blathering on about how I want to see the problems with this stuff fixed.
BUT.....I want my balanced recipes, stat bugs fixed, and my stinkin chef hatfirst! OH AND GUESS WHAT? Add the Bio-Farm deed, and you give more business to four different classes, Creature Handlers, Bio-Engineers, Scouts, and architects (who of course would have to build the barn). Being able to process meat at a rate of 2:1 would actually double the amount of meat you need to buy, so the scouts would benefit the most from this Structure.
I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR ALL OF YOUR IDEAS
and Sir Vimes...point a dev to this post, please. I really want to know what the heck they are thinking with allof the above problems. Also, as I can be to austin in 45 mins...and Houston is bad job market...they need to give me a job!=)
OH something I forgot to add about meat...
since the conversion rate would be 2:1 (or higher), huge stacks of high quality meat would still be worth far more to a chef than lots of small stacks, because he wouldn't lose thier stats, or half of the meat.
Also, instead of averaging stats on processed meat, code may be easier to write to just randomize it. Yea sometimes you would get really crappy meat, but it happens. (ever been to taco bell? /smirk)
yeah that sort of idea's been around for a while now but I don't think anyone fleshed it out nearly as well as you Uni. Good job.
Let CHs and/or BEs provide the animals (when they get mounts hopefully CHs might be just a little bit more of the general class they need to be and just a little bit less the uber-combat class they never should have been- just my opinion)
Great idea. It makes up for the loss of farms from beta in several excellent ways. Now if we can only get someone with a red nametag to read it....
Ok, about the Bio-Barn idea - it's already something thats been in the game in beta.
This is exactly the method that was supposed to be used to give chefs milk, etc. A barn would be produced by an architect, someone would place it, put in power and meat, and it would produce milk or eggs.
So, why isnt it in the game now? Anybody's guess. Most likely because it was bugged to hell, and receiving more bugged content is deemed as more important than fixing existing bugged content... at least thats how it seems to be recently.
"i don't think anyone with a red nametag has been in the chef forum since q3pos developer response to chef issues."
I don't either =)
Thanks for the support guys! And yea,I remember the 'farm' thing. It needs to be reworked completely.
Only way to get a red name to read it IMO is to get SirVimes to throw this over thier shoulder.
gimmie some lubbb!
For any chefs wanting eggs and meat, let me know. I'm on Bria as Th'Gils Rooc. I will sell the eggs and meat at a fair price and I typically have much in stock. Eggs especially, since I go through the lairs before I destroy them. I also have samples if that helps.

I was just talking to my friendly neighbourhood BE about this yesterday.
Well sort of the same. I want a little pen behind my cantina with paralopes in it. Then i can harvest hide and meat and if i get bored and lonely at night i can.......
Good Idea.. very close to the one I posted some time ago..

maybe if enough people will jump onboard.. something might happen
