Thread: Does Research Center, Manufacturing Center and Industrial Center actually work?

I have been told by people that there is no difference in your city specification because they are broke for crafting? Does anyone know for sure or has anyone tested it? I was told that manufacturing center doesn't work because the developers removed critical failure. Yet i still get a failure when I'm using experiment points. I have read the The Player City Guild and Advanced City Guide, but doestit actually help crafter to have a manufacturing, research or industrial Center.

Thanks

I do not have scientific proof, but I know from experience that is does seem to make a difference. I am not in a player city so I have a crafting house away from any bonuses. It takes me many tries to get all amazings in my crafting house. Every once in a while I fly to a nearby Metropolis Research Center and craft within the city limits with my droid. I hit amazings a lot sooner and often on first try inside the city limits, so I am a believer. I also madeabout a dozen lightsabers in my crafting house and was not happy with just great successes so I took all my resources to the city and made just one lightsaber. All amazings and much better stats as a result.

Industrial center? There's no such thing in game currently. Was that one of the Master Politician ones that they took out?

As for the rest, I like this quote:

My biggest concerns with our current specializations is that the ony one guaranteed to work that's worth the maintenance is Improved Job Market. Research and Manufacturing add such a small bonus to the total crafting rolls it's almost unnoticeable. Clone insurance isn't exactly all that expensive. No one hand samples resources on a long-term basis. Entertainment District saves you a few seconds on an inspiration buff. Medical is broke, but even if it wasn't most Doctors don't hang out in cities anymore because the xp is in the field. Stronghold's only good if you do a good deal ofPvP in your city, and you have to have everyone involved on the militia for it to even take effect (which isn't always a desireable thing).

I live in a research center and it does help. My factories are just outside of the city and there is a huge difference bt me crafting by my factories with my droid or me crafting inside of my house in the city.

As for the other city specializations I cant vouch for.

As a long-time crafter,I can report that (at least anecdotally) I can most definitely see the bonus to experimentation while crafting in a Research Center.

For the first half of my career we had no designation on our town. When we finally made the designation level, I noticed a marked increase in the number 'amazing' results and (as master) very rare 'good' results. The vast majority of experimentations were of the 'Great' variety. More recently, my non-crafter Jedi guildies reported a noticeable increase in their results when crafting within the city. Experimentation is a big 'ole bell-curve...the research designation seems to shift your experimentations a bit towards the higher-end. While a casual crafter might not notice the difference, someone who spends a lot of their time at the station would.

Whether it's worth the sizeable weekly maintenance...that's for you to decide with your citizens.

As for Manufacturing Center, it is worthless whether it works or not. Critical failures on assembly were made moot a bunch of publishes ago.
