Thread: What is it with Chef?

I'm trying Novice Chef and I have to say it's taking an absolute age to get xp. As you all know you get pitiful amounts for the rubbishy Chef foods you can make. I'm not a macro grinder as I don't believe in it. I want to make stuff which will sell rather than have to destroy to make room for more grinding.

No wonder not many want to try it. Hopeless!

well, you can use "practice mode," which gives you extra xp and doesnt produce a final product so you dont have to delete anything.

I feel your pain.

There are two ways to do it.

One way is to try to make "useful" things. Unfortunatley for a novice artizan, there is not much that people want except for weapon powerups. I would suggest concentrating on those and sell them cheap (like 20 credits per) which will give you xp for making them, xp when they're used, and 5 credits of profit for you time (not counting the resources used).

The other way is to strictly grind you way there. For that I would recommend Wind Generators, and click that little "practice" button at the end. You won't have to destroy what you make (to make more room) and you'll get an extra 5% bonus to your experience.

However, if you don't like the grind to get from Homemaker (food & clothing 4) to Novice Chef, you DEFINETLY won't like the Chef Grind which is EASILY 10 times more painful. Some classes aren't for everyone...

Go for Mixology first. Once you get level 2 you can make Tatooine Sunburn, a great drink... also you get Ithorian Mist, the best xp for the least resources to practice with. Then go up Experimentation so you can make the few things worth selling even better. Most of the other really good stuff doesn't come until Master, sorry.

I hologrinded Chef in 4 days and am not ashamed. I stumbled on a crafting profession that I actually like. I don't think I'll drop Chef for a long long time.

Just grind it, holo-style if you can afford it, and then you will enjoy it.

I have to say the Chef professsion is a lot better now. Food worth buying and decent xp for making stuff. Well done SOE for sorting it, although it should have been more like this from the start really. After all how could Chefs compete against all those doctor and drug buffs.

I'm at 1334 now and I hand grind, not using macros. This is my second chef

I fill my vendor with everything I can make as I go which definitely breaks up the monotony. I have a vendor now of which I'm quite proud - about 40 different kinds of food and drink

I haven't actually sold much, lol, but I have had a lot of fun making it all and I know my stock quite well

If you want to make stuff to sell as a novice, you should work your way up the mixology branch until you're able to make Vasarian Brandy. Vasarian Brandy sells ... even at its minimum levels. A Novice Chef can make Vasarian Bandy that does +150 (drinking it twice will make it +300 for 30 minutes). Even a +300 mind/willpower/focus buff is useful for casual hunters who don't want to use their "good master chef brandy" togo out on normal hunts. A +300 buff will allow them to spam specials like nobody's business.

The beauty of it is that you could use suboptimal organics to make this brandy. I'm grinding with Vasarian Brandy and sell it on the bazaar for 1000 credits each. People buy them.

You just need to have a factory to make alcohol and containers, then once you have them, you can crank out brandy, get xp, and get paid for grinding at the same time. Also, when you experiment make sure you experiment on Filling until it's at 50 or less, so that a person can drink it twice. If they can't drink it twice, the brandy is pretty much useless. As a Novice, I get many crit fails and too few experiment points, so whenever I can't get the filling down to 50 or less, I just delete it.

Well, I figured out how to grind chef under 12 hours (I did it in 11 hours 57 mins). Now some master crafters can see it but most will go.. yeah right.. LIAR!!... well I will do the math FOR you...

Grind the new Ithorian Mist at 252 xp each craft on pratice mode.

This is the fastest way I am sure but you will need some supplies...
10k Wheat (Soypro)
10k Vegetables (Soypro)
45k gemstone (small drinks)
45k Wheat (Alcohol)
150k Wheat (Ithorian Mist)
100k Water (Ithorian Mist)
2-8 factories (I used 4)

Need to make 4 schematics(1,000) of small drink and 4 schematics(1,000) of alcohol.
I made all 8 schematics and had 4 factories set up. Put 2 of each in there before I logged. When I came back on I put the other 4 in the factories and grapped some small drinks and alcohol crates.

First you want to grind Soypro till you get to Mixology II. Make the item for 80xp each and then eat it for another 40xp. Since its a component, it has a filling of zero, so you don't have to worry about using up stomach space. Once you get Mixology II switch over to Ithorian Mist to get Master Chef. I find this the fastest way. Some do not like using parts (small drinks and alcohol in Ithorian Mist) so they can do Synthsteak it gives 180 xp a craft on non-practice mode and takes 20 vegetables 20 cereal and 5 hide. I don't like the hide because I do not have any fighting professions and I have 56 ER13 harvestors to get any resources I need for grinding

There is 819200 xp total to craft in chef. At 252 xp a craft you have to do 3251 crafts total. 819200 / 242 = 3250.79
I have a custom macro where it takes 8 seconds a craft. 3251 x 8 = 26008secs / 60 = 433.46mins / 60 = 7.22hours
So that is 7.22 hours of crafting to get to chef. But you have to craft Soypro till you get to Mixology II so that takes little more time and you have to find chef trainers and keep making runs to the factories to get more crates because you can't carry all the crates on you.

I will double check this information on this later. There is always something a person forgets or types wrong.

I heard of the dupe but never used it. I am master doc, master chef, master BE, master merchant. That is where I get my money from.
