you guys have any alts or are you all out cook?
it helps a lot to have first hand info on what other professions want in foods, so i was wondering how many of you had extensive experience in other fields =P
i used to be an all out swordsman pvper til i decided i needed a change and went chef. all the imp killing, krayt slaughtering, and base taking was fun but it was time to slow down =) i still have a pvp alt but now i focus mostly on chef

chef/4440 artisan/4000 dancer/4000 musician (12 point chef, 14 point artisan, working on the dance/music enhance suit, at about +22/+15 now)
Master Swords/Master Doc/ FS melee speed/acc and FS exp <---pve
Master Rifles/TKM / 0440 Fencer / 1000 Medic <---pvp

i have an alt to mix up the fun 
I love crafting ....but i like fightin so i am
so i amMaster Chef/tailor/merchant on one
and
Master Doc/Swords with some scout working on jedion my alt

I have an Alt merely to act as my merchant and artisan. It may seem silly, but my chef main is also my combat main (Master Pistoleer) I'm quite fond of him.

MS/MD speed capped with a 800 ph is great fun, nice to unwind with
MBE/Master Smuggler My slicing and add whore
It covers my play styles nicely, though i maybe dropping smuggler, dunno what for though.

Uhm...I have a little bit of each..
Politician... Master Pikeman with +25 speed, +25 Acc, +25 block, and an array of dotpikes most people would kill to get... and a nice +1069 max dmg LVA.
Dark Jedi Knight... MLS, Mheal, 4004 Enhancer... no reason to say anymore
And then my chef..

My master chef is the combination of two players but I (Golfingtx) do all the cooking at the moment. Our templates are as follow:
Golfingtx : Master Medic / Master Doctor / Master Swordsman / Scout 0/0/1/0
Loot Whore / Resource Collector
Big-E : Master Pikeman / Master Bio Engineer / Medic 2/1/4/4 / Scout 4/0/4/0
Loot Whore /Resource Collector / Tissue Maker
Slingblade : Master Chef / Master Merchant / Artisan 4/4/4/1 / Tailor 0/0/1/0 / Marksman 0/0/4/0(Tired of getting killed by gubburs)
Money Maker 
I can't imagine doing chef without Bio Engineer. I know it is done but would be a real pain in the butt.

Thats some pretty expensive overkill or am i missing something?

I did the same. I used to be mainly a PVPer and RPer, but about six months ago I switched to crafting and RP fulltime and haven't regretted it.
I kept Master Fencer and TKA on my PVP char, but picked up Scout so I could hunt for meat.

Pay double for an alt?! Never. Currently I'm a Master chef, Artisan 4444, Merchant 0400, Master Pikeperson, and Force experimentation 4. Being a master pikeperson with +25 to just about everything I'd care for and some really nice pikes is more than enough. I've never cared for PvP and with this setup I can still PvE with the best of them. The really funny thing is I chose both Pike and Chef to make something of some lousy professions. At the time they were both hardly popular. Every once in a while, a super creature resource pops up that want to hunt, so I drop efficiency 4 and master chef and pick up novice scout to go gather meat.
