Thread: Good Idea to Accompany BE with Chef?

Greetings Chef Community,

I have been pondering lately on how I should use my Chef Template. At first, I thought BE was a must due to many chefs telling me that it's usually the Bio-Engineers that can't keep up with the demand (not particularly sure on this). However, I plan to be small time but also have a shop around Coronet and Theed. Do you guys recommend accompanying Master BE with Chef? I have the following templates available to me:

Master Chef/Master Bio-Engineer/3-0-0-1 Merchant
Master Chef/Master Merchant/Master Artisan
Master Chef/Master Bio-Engineer/0-0-0-2 Artisan/3-0-0-0 Merchant

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
Also, if anyone has any tips not mentioned in the FAQ, that would be welcomed as well.

Forgot to add, this will be on my alternate character so I plan to harvest everything myself. (If this matters)

Well unless you have good supplies of meat and are ready to wait for long factory runs I wouldn'y reccomend it. I think of it this way if I buy 1000 mediums additives at 40k per crate that runs me 1.6 million and gives me 40 crates of additives. Figure you sell the finished food at around 100-150k a crate (if its good) and your already up to a profit of 2.4 million, now if you find a BE that can give you an ample supply of additives quickly and maybe sell 1000 at 1.3 your in business.

Well, as in all things, it depends.

If you can find a willing BE partner, you can save the skill points and not take it yourself. You might even be able to find one willing to do schematics for you if you provide the resources (although this can be a touchy subject, so tread carefully). There's a BE vendor post over in the BE forum, so maybe check what suppliers you could make use of before deciding to go BE yourself.

If you're planning on sticking to "small time", Master Merchant might be overkill. Check the Merchant skill boxes in Management, and figure out what you really need regarding item limits and number of vendors before going the full Master route. Advertising 3 is kind of a no-brainer to get the planetary advertising. Hiring isn't really that important, unless you like a larger vendor selection and/or want to dress them up. Although... /whisper you can create vendors at Hiring 4, dress them, then drop the hiring branch and keep everything from before.

Ahem.

As for your third template, you need at least 0440 Artisan if you want Chef and Merchant. Unless you actually meant 0442 Artisan, in which case ignore me.

i had master merchant, decorated my vendors with clothes, put on planetary ad and now ive dropped it for a new template of:

Master Chef / Master BE / Artisan x44x / Scout 2x4x / Merchant xxx3

i still get all the benefits of the vendors i made up, dressed and added planetary campaign to and no need to waste the skillpoints on it (unless you planned on making more vendors but i already run my own store and have a vendor in a very busy mall)

master merchant is overkill even for a busy chef if you already have everything set up, having master be as part of my template is a lifesaver and leads to more profit as long as you have the cash to begin with to buy meat, which if you have been doing chef for a while you should have

I wouldn't do chef any other way. It is hard finding a BE to supply your components and remember, you will craft the foods at his speed and not yours. If the BE doesn't restock vendor regularly then you must wait. Almost all my business comes from repeat customers because I keep a well stocked vendor. I would lose all that if I ran out of a certain product and couldn't make it for a week or two. I always keep the waypoints to BE vendors in case I need something quick but never had to use it yet.

Will require a little more crafting and I had to resort to buying the meat for the tissues but still way better in my opinion. Whenvendor is full of products, I use the down time to make the tissues in bulk. I crank out all mediums or heavies at once (12 factories) andit requires about 3 days to do itbut well worth the effort. I then place the full runs in backpacks on a storage vendor along with full runs of all the components such as alcohol and soypro and I am ready to craft at a moment's notice. Just wait for an awesome flora spawn and go harvest it in bulk for the tissues and check the forums for the meat and you are set.

This is a question I've had as well. Should you Master BE or just go with one or two Trees?

Master BE is the only one going for. Not only do you get all the Exp points you get the 3rd nuts.

I personally couldn't run my chef business without my BE char, i simply produce stuff on too big a scale to have a working BE who has other orders to cope with, and trying to find a BE partner was a no go, as i simply couldn't find a willing partner.

But if you're going BE keep in mind that making them is a lenghty and frustrating process, mainly because of the stupid amount of meat needed. But if you do go for it, it will help you cheffing immensly.
