Thread: Radical Idea to making Chef Necessary

This may not swing well with alot of people, but it'll add even more depth to this game and to the Chef class.

Make food necessary to staying alive.

This can prevent people from camping in other planets for days wracking up ungodly money and points. They can only hold so much food before they have to head back.

This makes the Chef class a vital necessity. It doesnt have to be harshly strict, but eating a few times a day or when the "food bar" empties out would call for more food. The better the food, the longer they're full and people will pay top dollar for that. When out of food, the average player should withstand various stat wounds and also slow down literally.

Although this idea would totally throw this game in for a loop of a change, i see it as a good change and a great necessity to Chefs.

Hey there,

I am not sure if this is necessary. I think that chef buffs should be made more useful and in demand by by increasing the buffs themselves, either the quality or the duration.

Making food necessary would just more downtime, really, and it would take some of the fun away for the chefs. I kinda want people to buy food cause they want to, not cause they need to...if that makes any sense.

I am not totally against this idea, but one thing against it is that it could be severly abused, prices for food, regardless of quality, could sky rocket, and I for one care a lot about producing a quality product. I also don't think there are enough of us to meet that kind of demand, and I like having a small group of people rather than knowing every other guy/gal out there is a chef.

I hate having food be a requirement. It should be a magnificent bonus.I like the one idea that was mentioned about food giving exp bonus buffs.
What is someone to do if they are on Lok or anywhere else that has no chef and dont plan on coming back. They can buy tons of food but they;; run out and have to spen tons to come back.

Bleh i just hate that idea.

i dont think food should be required, but to add some realism, maybe there could be some instances where a player is handicapped and food helps them. for example, if a player were to burst run, he gets thirsty and would not be able to burst run again until he has a drink. something along those lines would give more use to drinks while not making chefs so overpowered

Make a message that spams every 30 seconds if you don't eat... people will buy food. They will buy lots of food.

My one thought on making Chef necessary are:

Once space ships come out have the ships need a certain amount of food and drink materials on board in order to launch the ship. Once everyone begins to purchase ships the need for food to launch their ships will be incredible and also hopefully the devs will decrease the foods lifespan over time and then they will have to re-purchase all the materials again eventually.

I think that making it necessary to an extent is a good idea, but not that you have to eat every 10 minutes or something. Just like I think that if items actually decayed the market would be alot better.

I agree with Vimes.

Food should be necessary only in the same way that cleric buffs and Clarity were "necessary" in Everquest.

There was no game mechanic that forced you to have these buffs, it was just that they were so good you couldn't imagine playing without them, and they made some impossible encounters possible. People staying on remote planets would come to town to get more food not because a game mechanic forced them to, but because having food made them so much more effective.

We just need better buffs.

ok, how bout this idea...

Instead of doing the whole tedious aspectof trading food, why not jus make it instant like heals? Jus follow how other MMORPG's with buff characters do. Increase the time and effectivenes. Chef's will have the edge over Docs since they will be able to do it anytime, anywhere.

This is probably the better route, although i still like having people need to eat and drink to maintain a proper status.

the epic encounters in everquest required those buffs

you could never destroy an epic monster with out the buffs in that game. it would be imposible

Yes, that's what I'm saying.

The original poster wants a new mechanic put in that makes food mandatory. You will eat or you will take wounds until you're forced to eat.

In EQ, you didn't take damage if you didn't have clarity, you just wanted clarity because it increased your effectiveness by so much. And so those buffs become something you want, not something you can't play the game without.

Should be the same way here. Make people want food because it's a good bonus, not because they'll take wounds if they don't eat.
