Hi all..
Started looking to become a chef...
But I was told by one chef that ALOT of our recipies require things made in the artisan tree as componets, and that without Master Artisan I will not make a good product.
Anyone able to help me out here...can I compete without Master Artisan?

Master Artisan is not necessary, in my opinion. There are no schematics in it that we use, nor anything else that helps in our crafting. Save the points man!

You dont need master artisan. Having engineering 1-4 helps alot. (expernt. points)

So do we have things we need to make in the artisan tree that go into our chef products?
I saw the post taht said the engineer line is good for extra exp points...
That leads me to believe we do need items in the artisan tree?
Anyone help me out here?

Yes, we use things in the artisan tree, primarily, Carbosyrup and Dough. After the revamp, we may need artisan even more, but who knows. You don't have to Master Artisan to make dough and carbosyrup, but some choose to. ![]()

The three things in Artisan that prove useful in Chef schematics are Carbosyrup, Dough, and Starshine Surprise (used in Tatooine Sunburns). Having the full artisan experiment points is helpful, but not required. I haven't really done tests to see how much lower-quality carbosyrup is different from the good stuff.
Probably the least useful tree to me is Engineering, aside from the Experimentation Points. The Business tree is useful if you actually want to make a living as a Chef, as it allows you to set up a vendor and, if you progress into Merchant (which I recommend) register a food vendor. At present, you can then unlearn all of Merchant and pretty much keep all the vendors you put in place, although there are discussions about that being changed. Surveying is obviouly useful.
However, being a "Master Artisan" provides *no* benefit to being a chef at all. Basically, Master Artisans can make electronic components (useful to Armorsmiths, Weaponsmiths, Architects, and Droid Engineers) and Vehicles (and eventually Vehicle Customization Tools).
Now, a way to get around some of this... if you have a friend who is a Merchant, they can set up a vendor and you can sell food to them for resell. Also, if you know a Master Artisan you can provide them the resources to make schematics for Carbosyrup, Dough and Starshine Surprise, then run them off in your Food Factory at your leisure. Also, once you find a good resource, you could also get another player to survey for you and find a decent spot to plant your harvester. In this way, you could focus entirely on Chef and all you'd have to learn is Novice Artisan and the Domestic Arts tree, and you'd get every bit of quality as people who put the points into Master Artisan, although it would require relying on others for some things, and my cost a bit more.
If you're lucky, you're on Chilastra and can contact me in-game. I've set up a Chef Supplies vendor that I'll advertise when I get more resources on it.

Oh, and one point to add, the more chefs require artisian components, the more of an advantage humans have (+10 Artisian Experimenation). Kinda unfair to the people who wanted to be unique. I dont know too much about chef (havent even mastered), but from my experience as a Doctor, the components are very important stat wise to the final combine.

Chef supply vendor on Chilastra? /bounce
Holy cow, me too. And IIRC, fooville is on Naboo, my standard stomping ground. Sweet! If you're interested in swapping resources, I can focus on a few and use you as a supplier for the rest...

I'm not a master artisan but I still make very good products. I was master artisan once, then dropped to engineering 2, and just picked up engineering 3 and 4 again (but couldn't spare the points for master). Through all that I have not seen more than a few points difference on my food - nothing that can't be compensated for by getting really good resources. And with food being a consumable item and in extreme demand, a few buff points here and there don't hurt sales at all.

as a chef who owns a cantina, I have lots of decoration to do(becuase who wants to go into a cantina without cool things in it!?) so I LOVE my eng tree. So many useless items in there. Like gun bits, and sword cores, and all sorts of junk bits that add some really nice atmosphere.

I rencently dropped all my engineering, meaning I no longer experiment on artisan level compnenets.
There is no apparent difference in the quality of thefoods I'm making with unexperiemented artisan components.
