Thread: Thoughts on this snippet

I made this comment in a thread about economics, and I got a couple interesting PMs about it, so I figured I'd ask the "forum chefs" what they thought:

What has always concerned me is the fact that Chefs had such potential with NON-combat abilities that they never chose to explore. Why not make food interesting for roleplay? Make it change your skin color, create amusing emotes, grant you special non-combat abilities (like acrobatics)? Food in this game makes no sense as it is, and the potential to use that to move the game back away from combat has NEVER been argued (that I have seen) by Chefs. Personally, I would love to see someone breathe fire after drinking a cocktail, or have their skin turn bright neon green after eating a dish. I would love to have the game engine play "Happy Birthday" when someone eats a Rhyscate, or watch someone levitate for a few minutes after eating "Helium Stew."

Are all the Chefs combat players only, or would this be something of interest to pursue? Like I said, I've been pretty interested in the lack of roleplay value in food and drink.

Thoughts?

I think the goal here is not to turn this game into other games you've played and maybe had some of these effects. This is Star Wars (or is supposed to be), and we really need to try and stick to the Star Wars element. Levitating is not "Star Warsy" unless your force sensitive. Interesting idea though.

one thing that we have realized is that in the revamp we have lost wedding cakes. I just sent off a message to the Devs telling them we really need this for role playing purposes. It is used a lot at weddings, and we would like to keep it...even if it is just a role playing tool and has no other effects, we want wedding cake!

So in that we are on the same page. I would love to have foods that are for strictly role playing. I think a lot of chefs do as well since so many of us are role players.

These would be novelty items, however. We wouldn't be able to make much money off of them. Roleplayers are sadly few in this game, and those that do probably won't shell out that much money.

I keep telling the developers that we need more role playing items...and they are listening somewhat. The chef hats we got are strictly for role playing....and soon we will have drinking and eating animations.

So basically whatI am saying is that role playing is important to the chefs, andI will be requesting a lot more role playing stuff. I would even put some of this on that wishlist. First, however, I think we need to work on the buffs that will make us a useful profession.

Oh, I agree totally, I was concerned that I have never seen (not meaning it hasn't happened, just that I had never seen) a big push for these "novelty items." Here I am also thinking of clothing, some of which is useful, some of which is fun. Very little food, in the "old way" is "fun." I know that this profession, which is of great interest to me, is in the spotlight, and I wanted to throw an idea out in hopes that I can help it along.

Hadn't heard of the chef hats. Great news! My number one hat request when I was a tailor.

I just hate the fact that there will be hundreds of "poser" chefs who try to be as cool as the real deals ;-)

Actually, Riis, I was just about to put this up:

We do ask for this stuff....but with the developers it is low priority.
