Greetings from another Chili chef.
Ok, components do have stats, they just don't get displayed. Using good resources and experimentation on things like Aludian, protato, etc have a noticeable effect on final items. However, the lower-level the component, the smaller the effect, so a near-perfect carbosyrup gives about +20 to the final buff compared to a carbo made from crap. The components' stats used to be displayed, I swear upon my stack of 997PE/980OQ fruits...
The best bang-for-your-buck seems to be to focus on quantity on components (at least when its available) and Nutrition (buff size) on the final item and components that do not have the Quantity category.
What kind of stats are you getting with your angerian? A good goal to aim for is +500 mind (which generally takes the action negative to -30 or so) and a stack of 10. You'll want to use high OQ/PE resources in your aludian and carbosyrup, and the same for the final combine. Flavor also has a bit of an impact on buff size, about 22%. Using quantity-experimented aludian, I can get the Nutrition into the 70%s, then spendthree or four points in quantity for 12-14 dose stack.
Some things that help experimentation are: tools and crafting stations with higher effectiveness. Tools max out at +15, stations at +45. The higher the number, the more likely you are to get great (or even amazing) successes. You get a similar improvement when standing in a player city with a "research" specialization. Also, some of the really high-end buffs being reported are being made by chefs with +10 or +20 worth of Food Experimentation tapes. For every 10 you increase F.E. (up to a max of 25), you get an additional experimentation point
Biological components are tissues made by bioengineers. These can only be included in food components (soypro, protato, puk, etc), not any of the base alcohols. The most common tissues are Micronutrient supplements which add 3-30% to the final food's duration, depending on the resources used for the tissue and the experimentation of the BE. There are also "broad spectrum supplements" which have an even higher duration bonus, but that tissue requires seafood (basically fish meat), so it's harder to come by. Other tissues add to one class of stats while subtracting from another. These have to be planned pretty carefully, since only final foods that have effects those stats gets the bonuses and negatives from the tissue. So a Bivoli (+mind) made with a protato using a +Health/-Action tissue won't have any difference.
I covered a few of these points in the FAQ stickied at the top of the forum, let me know if any of the sections could use some clarification.
