Thread: I going to become a BE as well as a Master Chef!

I've just posted the follow message to the BE boards and would like chef feedback on it as well as this is an issue that I believe is hurting Chefs and Player alike:

I'm a Master Chef on Chimera trying to provide good quality food to people for a good price and I have to say that you BE's are really not helping! BE's are trying to ramp up their prices on these Nutrients and as a result the food prices go up! This is not good for me as a chef, my customers and ultimately you, the BE’s!

Now I know that a lot of people are going to flame me for this post, but I feel that this issue has to be floated for the community to discuss.

I'm selling foods for the following prices:
Light Addictive Foods: 50k credits per crate of 25
Medium Addictive Foods: 70k credits per crate of 25
Heavy Addictive Foods: 90k credits per crate of 25
The only exception to this is the Brandy that everybody is buying like crazy (but I’m seeing sales going down of late), which I'm selling for 200k credits per crate of 25 and accounts for most of my sales!

All the food that I sell is bio-enhanced and I will not pay more then the following for BE Nutrients:
Light: 25k credits per crate of 25
Medium: 35k credits per crate of 25
Heavy: 45k credits per crate of 25
To turn these into foods, I have to add either 10, 15 or 20 units of water to it before it can be used as an ingredient.

I also have to gather all the resources for the foods that I produce and as noted before by other chefs, I need about 6 days worth of factory time to produce 20 crates of Brandy! To make all this happen, I (and my partners in the ETTC) have the following equipment:
2 x Merchant tents, each with 3 vendors in for sales
6 x Medium Naboo houses used as warehouses to store pre-built components and raw resources
2 x Clothing factories
5 x Food factories
3 x General item factories
4 x Heavy water Harvesters
3 x Ion Generators
6 x Heavy Flora Farms
6 x Heavy Mining Installations
Running this lot is a full time job!

Now I don't mind paying 50% of my food costs to the BE's who produce us the Nutrients, but I do get very annoyed when I get charged more then this because it starts pricing our foods out of the reach of the average adventure! We're not just producing Brandy, but other foods that don't sell as well too!

We’ve been doing this now for a while and although we have a lot invested in capitol expenditure, we don't have a lot to show for it! So please, please, please don't rip us off! I know that you have a few resources to harvest your self, including things like meat - but remember that it's easier then what I'm doing as a Chef as I too have to harvest meat for certain foods! You get paid for all your stuff in one go and can gather the resources needs to make 1000 items in a single evening's playing and get paid 1.8million credits for your trouble (OK, so you have another day in a factory to make your end product), but I have to sell my food on vender and that takes time before I get all the money back on items.

As I said, I well annoyed with people trying to make a quick buck and rip me, other chefs and general players off, so I'm going to become a BE myself (it doesn't take too long anyway, about a week if I work at it) so will be able to produce the addictives for a better price and as a result lower the prices on my foods and get more cash to show for my labours at the end of the day! I wanted to use existing BE's out there for my addictives, but you've all just priced yourself out the market and have hurt not only honest chefs, but also the average player who buys my product!

Its the meat that will hold you back... Its the meat that holds the Bio Engineers back. The dev's really didnt mean for us to bio enhance every food we sell and only bio enhance it...or at least I don't think they did.

In pre-patch notes they said Bio Engineers will be able to boast foods although it will be difficult for them to do so.

I know the cost of my Non Bio Foods are well within the reach of evena modest player.

If you add on 135k (give or take) to a crate of brandy that is only worth that much due to the BSN, be prepaired to spread the wealth...

I know these take a few factory runs to make but come on! Lets just say it takes 5 days, which it does'nt, to make a 40 crate run. You will gross 8,000,000 and net 5,400,000!!!! That is over a million credits a day. Noware youtrying to tell people they should sell cheaper so you can make more?

I know brandy sells well and supply and demand should dictate your prices. I 100% agree with that. Now based on the quoted statement, it looks like you also agree. Now, tell me this - Why should the BE ignore supply and demand?

I am currently doing the same, becoming BE (again). Shortly before the significant BE changes I dropped it, and tried Droid Engineer, which I did not like at all and dropped after 2 days or so.

What I currently found out is quite disturbing though in my opinion. I've got Novice BE with tissue 1 and 1 experimentation level. That lets me make Micronutrient Supplements (adds to strength). I admit, I am currently better off not experimenting, because it is an about 50/50 chance of a failure, but the simple little enhancement makes my food already so much stronger. Especially because you canadd this light enhancement to any food and medium/heavy enhancers are just"recommended" but not required.

Now that might be intented, but I just think that beause it is so easy to add this enhancer, everyone will only look for enhanced food, and not buy the normally crafted food.

Please let me know what you all think about that.

Good template, but very boring since it uses up basically all your skill points.

The BE Additives are WAY out of hand. They were meant to be used in a small elite market, but no one wants non-enhanced foods anymore.

I think what would really fix this whole system would be a reduction of the Nutrient additive by 2/3 of it's Maximum power. Cutting Mediums from a 60%-90% increase to a 20%-30% increase. This would make them useful, but not quite as necessary. I'm still afraid it won't do anything though, as power is ALL that matters to players. Even a boost of +50 will make them pay 3x as much if that's the BEST they can get.

BE's are more the Chef's than the Chef now. I'd like to see the Nutrient additives even go away, perhaps then we'd see a much wider variety of foods and mixes, because right now it's Power or Bust.

This is a link to the thread created in the BE forum. The title is don't rip me off. Nice title I must say. Very constructive. And you wonder why bio-engineers and chefs don't get along. Personally I don't make chef tissues anymore. Its not worth the hassle of getting resources just to have complaints thrown at me because of my prices.

Good luck with BE by they way. Its an easy grind. Shouldn't take a day or two. The resource requirements are real low and easy to come by. I'm sure you'll do well with it.

I remember seeing a post by a chef asking why BE's weren't pushing out more stuff since they could make a killing doing so.

The short answer. . . they simply don't have enough meat. The demand by players for brandy exceeds chef supply, the demand by chefs for BE additives exceeds supply, so just like you chefs charge an increased price to account for demand the BE's do the same thing. They charge more because they can't meet demand. . .just like you.

Become a BE and see for yourself. I'm not a BE but I do know that the meat requirements for that profession is STAGGERING.

Bottom line. BE's can't keep up with demand so they charge more.
