Thread: 12 Experiment Points Almost Necessary After Patch?!

I read Thunderheart's post about trying to open up the economy to new crafters via this upcomming nerf.

How we will no longer be able to make the best of everything...how we will have to sacrifice one stat for another...how important uber resources will be.

I was just thinking to myself the whole time... Chef is one of the few professions left where 12 points is not manditory. To be a sucessful weapon smith or armour smith without 12 points is almost impossible on my server.

Now with the upcomming changes it seems that 12 points of experimentation will be MUCH MUCH more valuable and necessary.

And the resource curve didnt use to be so bad with Chef 3 / 4 cycles tops...and you can make decent product. 10 Cycles and you are normally up there with the best of the Chefs on server...

Now you need only the most uber resources and 12 points to push them up to what we are currently getting with Good resources (800 / 800 / 500 / 500 ) now.

Just my thoughts...

I've thought about that as well after speaking to some friends about how much more important resources will be now. I wonder if this is a patch for the rich to become richer and the poor to become poorer? If 12 points is the norm to craft any decent food along with resources that are in the 900's, I don't see many new crafters becoming great anytime soon :/

Don't be fooled. The crafting nerf is a combat rebalance in the guise of economics!

Here is how it went down, IMO -

Dev Team Leader: We need to nerf combat again
Dev Team: Again?
Dev Team Leader: Yes, again... Players can still solo. It needs to stop
Dev Team: I see...
Dev Team Leader: I need some ideas guys/gals. Let's hear em
Dev Team: We could fix broken classes
Dev Team Leader: ROFLMAO... We don't have time for that...
Dev Team: We could recode the combat AI
Dev Team Leader: lol, that would take quite some time.
Dev Team Leader: We need some quick ideas.
Dev Team Leader: Most of our resources are devoted to the expansion pack
Dev Team: How about nerfing weapons and armor?
Dev Team Leader: That might work...
Dev Team Leader: How could we do this?
Dev Team: We could rewrite the schematics
Dev Team Leader: That would take too long

Dev Team: We could change the experimentation process for armor and weapons
Dev Team Leader: That would stilltake too long
Dev Team: We could change a couple crafting constants in the crafting system as a whole...
Dev Team: and the final products will be less powerfull
Dev Team Leader: That is a great idea. It will only take a few minutes to implement
Dev Team: Wait, what about the other crafting classes that don't affect combat?
Dev Team Leader: What do you mean?
Dev Team: If we make a blanket fix, it will have an effect on all crafting
Dev Team Leader: Hmmn, I see...
Dev Team: We could add some extra code to avoid that problem
Dev Team Leader: That takes time and time is money
Dev Team Leader: You have a go
Dev Team Leader: We will just spin it to the players

Another conversation:

Dev Team Leader: We are nerfing all crafting as part of the combat reballance
Dev Team Leader: and the players will complain about this quick fix
Spin Doctor: Ok, how will we sell this?
Dev Team Leader: That's your job
Spin Doctor: I know, we have lots of complaints about the economy
Spin Doctor: lets kill two birds with one stone
Dev Team Leader: Where are you going with this?
Spin Doctor: We can tell them it's to fix the economy in the long run
Dev Team Leader: Do you think that will go over very well?
Spin Doctor: Of course, these are just a bunch of kids
Spin Doctor: afterall, what do they know
Dev Team Leader: hehe, very true, very true indeed

Seeing how the game has unfolded ofer the last few months, I can assure you this is their mindset.

BTW - Yes, I am very bored right now lol

In their full combat rebalance I think they are doing the nerfing. The real problem is someone there gets paid a lot of money for game design. They saw a few problems, some people complained about crafting crit fails and experimentation crit fails. So some guy decides to do his job. The game designer has no clue about crafting, making a video game is probably much like food service, even though you work there, you never want to eat there. So none of them really play or understand the game they are working on, yet are paid to make the game 'better'. So they come up with some new way to fix crafting and address all the complaints, do much self back patting and expect everyone to rejoice. Unfortunetly they have no idea what they are doing. You give these guys too much credit thinking they did this as a stealth nerf. I don't see them understanding their game or their customers well. Why they put this forward and why no one bought it.

I think the change is good. It will create a larger and more needed divide between the chefs that love what they do and try to do it as best as possible by only gathering the best resources and collecting tapes, versus those who have little enthusiasm and gather whatever resource happened to spawn right outside there house.

In general if you are a dedicated crafter resources and tapes should have been priority 1 from the start, not an after thought.

Not sure about your server, but there are so many chefs on my server that you need 12 points to complete. After the patch forget it. Chef is one of the professions that is greatly helped by 12 points, I would say more so than weaponsmith. It makes a huge difference in the final product, believe it or not. 20% extra experimentation goes a lot longer than what most may think off hand.

The whole crafting nerf is just stupid and being done for the right reasons but the wrong way to do it.

I'm not sure I understand what the change was supposed to do completelybut ifthey did decide to do that (cancel the change) I can only praise them. Its a remarkable quality to discontinue something you have worked on because the opinions of others are against it. Good sign from the developers.
