Working against sales: Duration of foods

What helped sales early on: Hype of new foods (everyone had to try em)

What to do to increase sales: Marketing, Marketing, expand your vendors, and more Marketing to increase your customer base.

I have a very large food business on shadowfire and I have no problems selling foods. Sales have not dropped yet.

It's also the people selling brandy for virtually nothing and even selling crates of non-BE on the bazaar.

The longer duration does make a difference though,I've had customer buy5 crates at once and return weeks later....heh I've also had customers buy 10 crates and found one reselling my brandy on Dantooine.

I personally think ongoing business requires the following:

1. Sufficient quantity of BE Brandy in full and partial crates. This will be Bivoli too after the next patch.

2. Sufficient inventory. No one wants to run 1k to a vendor only to find 25 items.

3. Sufficient selection. While brandy and synthsteak are my big sellers, I frequently have customers wipe me out of veghash, bespin port, etc. Cater to as many markets as possible.

4. Someone else said it earlier...marketing. This job never ends.

5. Label your food clearly.

I know it all seems obvious, but I shop my competition, and I am always shocked at howsome stay in business.

Thanks Cyene. I'm doing that - well, except for the BE side. I currenlty have 350 items on my vendor (not counting the Smuggling supplies which is an additional 150) and those span close to a dozen different food types in varying crate sizes (with at last 20 crates of 25). I also have about 200 units of BE products in crates of 5- or 10-s.

Hopefully the business will come back... If not, I'll have to cut my prices...

This is also the reason: you're not raising prices based on demand, therefore you're selling them below market value, therefore people bought up 3-4 times more stock than they normally would've bought up had you sold the crates for market value. Since they bought 3-4 times more stock at your low prices, it will be a while before they run out and need to restock.

It's a simple case of a crafter shooting himself in the foot.

Question to chefs in general (or even better - chefs on Kettenmoor): What happened to all the customers?

Up until the past couple of weeks, I was doing decent sales - about 500K to 1 million per week. My highest sales amount was almost 2 million in one day. As a businessman, I NEVER raise my prices based on demand - I simply sell more. I price small-glass Brandy at 40K per crate (+200/32 min, 6 charges) and similar stuff at either 200 or 250 per charge.

There's is also many many more chefs.

I used to be able to play all day and never see another chef. At starports, people would gawk at me for being a chef. (and for being really ugly)

Now, we're everywhere.

Yesterday, I had my lowest sales day for any day since last October. Might actually have to market.

But lately my sales have dried up. I haven't sold any food in over a week. Not a single unit. Spice sales have also dried up. Other vendors that I am running (selling BE pets) have also stopped selling entirely (from about 4-5 pets per week).

Is anyone else experiencing this? Is it possible that the people who bought up such vast quantities in the first few weeks of the revamp are simply overstocked? Or has the "6-month" time come and people have quit playing? Any ideas?

...and FYI, my competitors on this planet are either often out-of-stock or charge prices 1.5 to 2 times the price I charge...

Are your prices high for your server? Seems to me 40k for a crate of small glass non enhanced brandy is kinda of steep. Of course no one really wants to buy non enhanced anyway.

I've notice a drop off in people playing the past week or so. Coronet is slow with all the people, the friends list is down and general active all around has dropped. However server lag is down too.

People get bored and do other things. Once the new publish comes out everyone will be back on to try out the corvette.

Maybe no one wants it on your server, but I have to make more every few weeks. I sell non-enhnaced Brandy for 50k a crate. I sell about 15 crates a week.

I have 2 vendors for food, the non-enhanced one has over 200 crates covering about 15 diffent types of food. The other is enhanced only which has about 50+ crates of about 7-8 varieties.

Don't forget since the last Patch there has been a bunch more Chefs around (the new way to become rich very fast), a crate Vasarian Brandy lasts for a while and it's not really the cheapest stuff around.
