Thread: So, how is chef as a side?
Im thinking for a side proffession of picking up Chef. When i mean side, i mean not to spend hours crafting and selling goods, but just for an alternative to fighting, and to supply my PA with some foods/decoration.
At first I tried DE, but got bored/frustrated after reaching 1/0/0/4. And it consumed alot of time getting the right rescources, even for low quality droids.
Can anyone give their opinion on how Chef would be a side job? I've heard there are still a few bugs and such, but is it frustrating to level, and boring to craft the items that do work? Would I have to spend hours on finding ingrediants and harvesting them, or would buying from the bazzar in small quantaties be suffecient. In other words, I dont want to spend more than 25% of my playtime on this proffesion. So can i do that and still make decent foods for my guild-mates and personal use? Not even to master, but perhaps 4/0/0/4 ?
Should I wait a few months and ask again when things are a little more fixed for chefs, or can someone supply me with their opinion now?
I'd wait.. I have pretty much put my chef on the side for now.. I am not working on skilling up more until some issues get resolved.
I think chef has potential if it ever get's any love.. but for now I wouldn't recommend it.
Even if chef was great, it's kind of a difficult thing to do as a side job. It feels like every recipe needs a completely different set of ingredients, so if you want to make a selection of 6 different foods you might need about 12 or more different ingredients. Gathering those can be hell, especially as a lot of things only chefs care about so you can't buy off other players. Then there's running your factories on components. This can easily take up way too much time to do anything else..
For example, if you want to make a selection of Breath of Heaven, Sunburn, Corellian Fried Icecream, Bivoli Tempari, Fishak, and Vercupti, you need at minimum (making sure these are good quality):
Ingredients: fruits, metal, radioactive, oats, reactive gas, water, carnivore meat, lubricating oil, insect meat, tubers, wheat, and rice
Components: aludium (a lot!), soypro, starshine surprise, carbosyrup, protato, dough
Also, aside from Sunburn, you will find that there aren't many particularly nice things you can make until you get to cooking IV, mixology III,and entrees or desserts III. Which is a lot of work for a few good things.
I'm also a doc, and while doc crafting can be very challenging with ingredients from places like Lok and Dantooine, it's also a lot more manageable. You need a selection of about 12 ingredients total for ALL meds, and with a lot more docs around it's a lot easier to either find the stuff on the bazaar or people who can share a waypoint.
Well there is also Smuggler which isnt bad if you want to make buffs as well slicing is a great way to make money.
Also I always thought just Artisan was half decent they can make alot of components that no one else wants to waist there time making..
how are you getting enough milk to crank out crates of Bantha butters?
and im sure the nougart sucks like most every other item chef can make.
