Thread: My last effort ... hope Sir Vimes helps me out
Ok, as in my last post here, i retired.
My 2box char isnt funny as well.
Devs arent looking at us, doing nothing.
The last thing i can think of is putting some pressure on SOE by mailing George Lucas with an open letter.
Before i spend 2 or more hours in this letter, i would like some feedback, especialy from Sir Vimes if this is of interest.
If so, my plan would be to contact the other Correspondents and create a FLAMELESS (i see a difference btw. beeing just upset and sorry and mindless flaming) open letter to Lucas Arts.
Feed back plz
Hey, I am here.
Sorry to see that you have retired, although i can really understand why. Sigh.
What do you need help with exactly?
Good you're there -)
Well my vision of a letter insist these points
- What profession do you,a s correspondent, care of..
- How does it fit into SW ?
- What are the people that choose to be your profession like ?
- What are their comments ? Do they like their game play ?
- Do you feel that SOE did a good job ? Do you feel like your profession XYZ is worth playing ? Remember its an MMORPG and you want to have fun for hundres ... more thousands of hours.
- Is there any issue not adresses over a time of 2 months by soe ? (more than one possible)
- If yes, is this issue crucial for your gameplay ? Can you still have fun with the game ? (more than one possible)
- Do you feel theres a community with SOE/Devs on one side and the players on the other ?
- Do you personally like your profession and with that your gameplay in SWG ?
- Will you keep playing it ?
These are some questions that come in my mind right now. I think they are mostly neutral.
Just FYI, I will answer these, but I have family coming over tonight. I will answer these tomorrow during lunch.
Interesting questions.
- What profession do you,a s correspondent, care of..
I am the chef correspondent
- How does it fit into SW ?
It doesn't fit into the movies too well. I mean, there was Wuher, the bartender, and maybe Aunt Beru. However, what attracts me to this game is their attempt to go beyond the movies. What I liked about the movies it that the SW universe seemed like such a well thought out, fleshed out world full of details. There always seemed like there was stuff going on just off screen. This game investigates (or tries it's best to do so) all the details offscreen, and I think chefs fit nicely into that.
- What are the people that choose to be your profession like ?
I am really not sure how to answer this, since it is a diverse group. I say that most of them are roleplayers, while others enjoy support roles, helping out when they can with their buffs. Others, I believe, want to be crafters and enjoy crafting but did not want to do it in one of the more competitive markets like weapons or armor.
- What are their comments ? Do they like their game play ?
I think I can speak for everybody that we can see how much fun this profession can potentially be. I think the developers started off on the right track. I think we are all getting frusterated, however, because there are so many things wrong with this profession and there is nothing being done about it. More on that below.
- Do you feel that SOE did a good job ?
I think specifically the developers did a great job, and they continue to do the best job humanly possible. Being humans, yeah, they do make mistakes.
But SOE in general...no, I don't think they are doing a great job. I think the first mistake they made was that they released the game too soon. I understand they want to make a prophit, but they should have waited longer. Most of the major stuff was there, but none of the little things were finished. In MMORPG, the fun is in the details, in the little stuff. Content, small things that don't matter except to flesh out the world. I don't think that enough of the little stuff was finished when the game went live, and as a result I don't think this game is nearly as fun as it should be.
And as a result of the above, the developers have too much to do. I think the developers are doing the best job that they can, but there is just too many bugs, too little content, too much balancing that needs to be done. There is a lot of stuff that should have been done before release, and now the developers are scrambling to catch up. They are making mistakes because they are hurrying too much, and they are spreading themselves too thin so that things that need to be fixed (like Chefs) are falling through the cracks.
I should point out that I don't think it will be like this. The developers are very slowly catching up...but that is how it stands right now.
- Do you feel like your profession XYZ is worth playing ? Remember its an MMORPG and you want to have fun for hundres ... more thousands of hours.
Right now, I don't think it is fun or worth playing. The developers have hinted at fun and cool stuff some point down the road, but they need to find the time to put this stuff in. I do believe there is a light at the end of the tunnel or I wouldn't be a correspondent...but man, it is taking a long time to get there. Until then...I am just frusterated.
- Is there any issue not adresses over a time of 2 months by soe ? (more than one possible)
Many, many, many. No milk, experimentation completely bugged, not enough of a reward for climbing up the chef tree, recipes unbalanced, our products paling against smugglers and doctors...the list goes on.
- If yes, is this issue crucial for your gameplay ? Can you still have fun with the game ? (more than one possible)
I am still having fun with the game, but every week I find myself doing less and less chef related activites. Whenever I use my chef skills, I get down just because I could see the potential, but it is just not there yet.
- Do you feel theres a community with SOE/Devs on one side and the players on the other ?
I am not the best person to ask for this. I always have a tendency to look at things from both sides of the issue. Even more so now that I am talking with the developers on an almost daily basis.
At the beginning I think there were sides. This is mainly because so much was going wrong and we were not getting enough information from the developers. I belive the developers are heading in the right direction to correct this issue. Again, since I do have more contact with the developers than the average player, I have a different perspective.
- Do you personally like your profession and with that your gameplay in SWG ?
As it stands, no. But I have high hopes that eventually it will be turned into something much more fun.
- Will you keep playing it ?
SWG in general? For a bit longer. Beginning to get bored though. Chef? I have a master chef on the test center and when I see a problem come up, I use that to test the problem so I can communicate what is happening with the chefs better. For fun...I got a mid level chef and not really working on advancing him until the profession improves.
First... Thx for your time.
I think this is allready a valuable thread for the chefs out there since it reflect the opinion of their voice to the devs.
Im planning to continue this "small" project that the SOE community managers should have done.
Next step i thought of is asking other profession correspondents about their class AND about our class. weaving some kind of webbed information.
On the one side this is impressing my anger at the unfinished game, on the other side i try to get something that is like a massive user feedback for SOE so they start seeing what their customers are thinking.
As in every volunteered work i thank for any support from any side ill get.
I also think if im done with this more basic questions you'll get my part two of questions -)

Your forgeting about the short order chef, Dexter Jettster, from Episode 2.
