Thread: Why Fishak is OLD NEWS

Just thought I'd throw this up for the people that haven't realised it yet. Fishak is far inferior to the new foods with one exception - space saving. Seems that some people have already figured this out around my home town, and the new foods are selling well. Here's the story:

I used to sell 9-use Fishaks which gave +470 to mind and -50 to Action for 13 minutes (75 filling) for 65,000 per crate. One stack would work out to 2,600 credits for (9X13)=117 minutes of +470 buff time. Or another way, the "price per minute of buff time" (ppmb) is 22 credits.

Compare that to one crate of new Spiced Tea. Spiced tea gives a +55 buff to Mind with an 8 filling, 3 uses per stack (small glasses) and last for 35 minutes. You can combine these up to 12 uses for a +660 buff to mind. But to keep things "fair" with Fishak, let's say you only take 9 at a time (+495 buff, about the same as Fishak). One crate will give you (3X25/9)X35 = 291 minutes of +495 buff time. That's almost 2.5 times as long as Fishak. I sell the crates of this stuff for 4,000 credits, but at the rate they're selling, I think I may have to increase the price to 5,000. Even at 5,000 credits, the ppmb would be 17 credits.

Now compare it to Vasarian Brandy. My Large glass brandys have 9 uses per stack and give +200 to all mind stats for 33 minutes with a filling of 49. To compare to Fishaks, you'd have to take two Brandys to equal one fishak (more or less) giving you a +400 buff to all mind stats, but it lasts twice as long. Therefore one crate of large glass Vasarian Brandy about equals one crate of Fishak. I am selling mine for 55,000; but let's assume I increase it to 65,000 credits. Now you're paying the same amount as you would have for Fishak, sacrificing 70 points of Mind and adding 400 to Willpower, Focus and +50 to Action. Not bad huh?

Need more mind? Try combo #3 - 6 shots of Spiced Tea with 1 shot of Brandy. Result - +530 to mind, +200 to focus, +200 to willpower all for 35 minutes at which time you can re-take the full combo. Based on the "inflated" costs above (i.e. 5,000 per crate of tea and 2,600 per stack of 9-use brandy), You would have to stock up on 1 stack of Brandy and 2 crates of Tea to make the math work out evenly. That's a cost of 12,600 credits for 9 "doses" of combo #3. That would give you the above buff for a period of 315 minuits - a cost of 40 credits per minute of buff time. While this is more expensive than the straight Fishak, you are picking up an extra +60 to mind, +200 to focus AND willpower and +50 to action.

Drawbacks: Instead of carying one crate of Fishak that would last you a total of 48.75 hours, you would have to purchase extra of the above combo #3 (the equivelant duration would be about 10 stacks of Brandy and 20 cases of Spiced Tea). But if you have a house or storeplace that you can drop stuff at, I'm sure that the one-stack brandy and 2-cases tea combo above would last you long enough (over 5 hours of gaming time).

This is a drink only combo. What other combos have people found that work really well?

synthsteak sucks with a good armor.

With an 80% kinetic armor, that food only takes away 4% of damage, withch is not worth wasting the stomach for it.

Yeah, I have to say you are 100% right about the Spiced Tea. I have been so busyfilling orders for it (I'm running 80 crates of it right now) that I have time for little else. This really was a boon to the artisan market. I have my tea (with fairly good materials) down to a 7 filling and a 51 pt buff. I sold it at 5k and was sold out in 5 minutes. Moved it to 7k...5 minutes. 10k....5 minutes. 12k....10 minutes. I am thinking about even bumping it up to 15k if the trend continues. I still have yet to see them stay on my vendor with 4 facs working non-stop. When my alt hits Master BE the additives are going to be sweet!

Oh and by the way, the filling drops so fast on this stuff that you can easily stack it on top of each other and end up with a mind buff of well over 1k for the last ten mins or so, peak it and then replenish as needed, it takes a little more work to keep up, but it can be worth it.

synthasteak stack.

pile 3 of these on with your armour and show those Wenches of Dathomir what the back of your hand looks like...

as a TKM/Master Brawler, i get hit MAYBE 3 times per NS. that means i can take out 7 NS per stack. great when you get aggro'd and didnt want to... = )

All the new long lasting food is really only good for PvE, in PvP if u get killed you have to wait 45min to eat/drink again. Sure, they buffs are better, but I am not sold on the overall package being better than say glucose+fishak.

For sure yours has BE components in it that give a +100% boost to the Buff (about). That would probablybe a medium BE component. You are also paying about 200% more for it (i.e. instead of 65K per crate, you're probably paying close to 200K - or should be... if you're not you're getting a great deal).

It could be components as well, but the BE is the main thing.

The stats above (+200 for 40 minutes with a 49 filling and 9 uses) are pretty "standard & achievable" results with decent (but not great) resources and the regular master-level experimentation.

That's the wrong way to look at it. If I am now taking 16% damage instead of 20% damage (the 4% reduction you mention), I can still tank 25% longer. I also greatly reduce the risk of getting one-shotted. This is valuable to me whether I am wearing armor or not.

Thanks for that Matey. As you can see I'm totally ignorant of the Chef profession but, after some reading, it's just started to sink in what a bloody amazing set of buffs you can offer! 17% to Creature Harvesting. That takes a Hunting III Char above Master Scout just for chewing a biccy. Awesome.

Well I suspect I am getting a good deal but the way I price it, it's cheaper than a Musician/Dancer set of buffs over time and I ALWAYS have it available. It's nigh impossible to get a set of Doctor plus Mind buffs at the same time on my server - this is so much easier. The buffs (in my case) are much higher too. No contest. I suspect some of the arty professions may be crying nerf any time soon. I must admit though, if I hear 'Nerf Chef' I'm gonna have to quit this game because I would be laughing too much to play it.

You also have to take into account that snythsteak will reduce the amount of condition your armor loses. You get a 25% reduction to damage before your armor ever gets involved, which will extend the life of your armor over the long haul. Whether that is worth the stomach filling or not is matter of personal opinion, but it is something to take into consideration.

I'm not sure about the figures posted here and on the chart, which is elsewhere on the board. The Vasarian Brandy I use gives +428 to M/F/W and last for 41 minutes. This means I get a bonus of 856 to M/F/W for 41 minutes, which totally blows Fishak out of the water. Once the buff wears off, my stomach is empty and I just quaff another two.

Most of the posts I see quote +200 and the chart shows a max of +310. Why is the stuff I buy so much better? Is it purely about experimentation or is it about materials?

Some interesting combinations:

Won-Won, Kiwik, Vasarian Brandy. This works REALLY well if you're a TKA, it's like a mini-doctor buff. Sadly Won-won and Kiwik only last 14ish minutes. Still, for a short time you're much stronger.

Vasarian Brandy, Bofa Treat / Blob Candy Combo. +400 to all Mind stats, +500 to either Health or Action, or a split between the two.

Vasarian Brandy, Accarragm, Bofa/Blob Candy. +200 to all Mind, +200 to all Action, and up to +500 extra in Health or Action of a mix of both.

Vasarian and Canape. Mind user's dream. For 12 minutes you'll have +800 to Focus and Willpower. If you're toting around 800 Focus and decent Willpower like me normally, your Mind bar isn't moving for specials. Period. And your Mind bar will regen like mad as well. Mix this with Powerboost in the TK tree for extra stopping power, especially with Novice or better Medic for healing.

These are just stat mixes, there are a ton of possible skill ones as well, like using an Incap Reduction food and then a BurstRun HAM reduction as soon as you get up. This makes for a quick and easy escape, especially if coupled with eating a few Bofa/Blob as soon as you get up for a quick HAM boost if you have no Medic.

Another note, since you can only have 2 of the drinks that buff all of a class of stats active, it's sometimes better to move your stat points into Action and Health and use Vasarian Brandy to keep your Mind constantly up.
