Thread: Starting out as chef, but with a difference :)
I started off at the top end and biught my suit and my resources. PE OQ matter and I would get as much Fruit, Berries, Wheat, Wild Rice, Dom Wheat, Tubers,Water that you can get yoru hands on.
Also BE x4x4 is needed as the experimentation comes from xxx4. Don't forget your chef buffs are from dancers. Sub component quality doesn't matter (even whan it's a food) and if you can seriously afford it, get a 14pt artisan suit if you are human or 12pt if you are not as it helps.
you will want a lot of factories, and a way to organize your storage houses so that you don't waste time going 'where did i put that wild rice arrrrrgh'. at 0404 BE you'll be buying heavy tissues so you may want to stock up on some of those now, they're in vegesparine and mandalorian wine, 2 of my biggest sellers. oh the mando wine schema can be real pricey but IMO is worth it, that's another thing.
if you make your own light additives you will go thru more grind water than you can possibly imagine. same with grind fiberplast and inert petro for trim, if you make your own with 0010 tailor, and crys gemstones to turn that into casks.
you'll want meat and flora for the BE tissues, OQ/PE/Flavor matter there but DR does not. sometimes very high OQ wood works in those, so you probably want a stash of that. and one thing i did early on was put harvs on really nice flora spawns even if it wasn't a type of flora that i thought i'd use...and i ended up using all of them! some foods just call for organic, so you can use whatever you have.
what i wish i'd done earlier was better organization of my lots. i now have it all sorted out, so that my toon with survey has just 2 houses so 7 lots free for nice spawns. i keep an alt with 10 free and another with 4 free, and i usethose to get grind stuff on my home planet (naboo) after i survey a spot on the chef, and sometimes for nice spawns too. if you'll be buying everything that won't matter to you, but figured i'd mention it in case you will be harvesting your own too. i borrow lots from friends for some storage houses, and have all factories/other houses on the same toons so that they just stay static, but it took me a long time to get that all organized so that i could keep track of who had free lots, slow learner here hehe.
template-wise i can't live without 4400 artisan and merchant on my chef char. i recently put BE on an alt, so that i could make my own heavies and go ahead and master artisan on the chef since she has all 4 lines anyway.
Chef is a big prof. I found using a divide and conquer method worked well for me. I chose 1 food that I know sells well, master that recipe, then move onto the next. You learn alot as you go, especially if you have some chef friends who can answer your silly questions. Also, keep an eye on swgcraft.com or use a resource kit to check current resources. I've been very lucky and have found some very nice current spawns on valycn (berries, water, beans, meats etc). Also, become friendly with some rangers who can get you the good creature organics fast when they come in spawn.
Chef exp tapes are going pretty cheaply, but artisan exp is more expensive. Get a hold of a +25 chef suit and a +25 artisan suit, then work on getting assembly tapes to finish em off.
good luck!
