LOONG time chef here...sorry i have never really posted on these forums before, just more comfortable with the people i know i guess
Just some background...i been a chef for almost 8 months....not a big time chef in the sense i make millions a week (hell i maxed once at 8mil total lol ) but known well enough and have a great understanding of the profession.
I know BE/WS/AS gettin alot of loving in CURB...but the question remains....
The non combat related profs like Tailor/ architect/ DE / Merchant / Chef getting no info provided to us whatsoever.
I love the CURB so far.....all around (exception of a few minor details) has earned the right in my eyes as the best thing that has happened to this game in a long while. But the question remains...these profs have either been totally ignored in place of combat. i know its a Combat Upgrade/ Re Balance....but it seems now there will be only 3 viable crafting professions and major updates in this game.
Me, being a poor chef which has never made tons of money, i feel as if i am getting the axe. While the new ham system looks great...and armor and weapons being ever improved....seems some of us professions are gonna get phased out to nothing more than a basic artisan profession.
I was on test center earlier, and was looking at the schems you receive in the elites...i know i cant test em till the frogs are updated or i grind out the prof again (yeah right lol
) But the schems all seem to be in place that they were originally. If thats the case...how will our enhancements work. Since alot of our foods are buffs....and for the most part buffs have been severely downgraded, does that mean chef foods will be downgraded, or perhaps made useless until a further update way down the line?
Alot of our foods are buff foods. And with 1 hittable ham...it makes alot of these foods seem worthless. Other than pikatta pie and synthsteak for example.
And it has been stated that foods will no longer be an equalizer, and chefs will not be needed as much. Sales will go down...and for small time chefs like myself who dont have 10's of millions of credits..it just hurts our pocket. While docs losing the power to their buffs...they are gonna be essential in pvp..along with BE getting a much deserved boost to their profession. CM will be always be CM, and AS and WS gonna be making millions. Tailor and Architect still have goods that cant be degraded or "consumed" to the point where you can literall buy one time your clothing , harvs, houses, etc and never need to buy em again. And droid engineers, being really a one hit wonder with BH droids, lack substance to their profession as well.
I am not ranting...just expressing some concerns. Overall i love the CURB. But being a crafter, i feel very in the dark and basically scared that some crafting profs will be severely hurt by it. It is probably due to lack of information on how the CURB will affect us, or lack of change to the non combat oriented crafting professions.
Documents released were everything but crafters, and that leaves me feeling very vunerable, wondering if it is even worth being a master chef, and if it is gonna be a sinkhole for credits for us rather than a money maker. While i dont make much credits off the profession...i live comfortably for myself, i cant afford the better weapons...but i didnt go into chef for the extravagant luxuries of being super rich. I did it for the love of the profession.
/salute to all chefs

Miagi,
I am in the same boat you are. Right now its wait and see. So far it looks like there have been changes to the artisan foods but there is not a lot of information available. Only way to get more information is either to grind chef out on TC or to wait for the blue frogs.
Until then......

/salute to a great chef on my server
I'm in the process of becoming a chef as well.. I know, weird timing. It's something I'd wanted to do for some time now, and, having had some encouragement from Aye, I'm going to stick it out.
What we do know about the CURB - combat, specials, windup-cooldown, armor, HAM, all very different. It would appear that the artisan docs just have yet to be released. One thing appears true though, the game is taking a stronger turn towards loot and combat, and away from economy.
Aye did point out that not all chef foods were buffs. However, some of the best selling ones were. As buffs are taking a back seat, I would assume that the skill enhancements will be pretty viable. As my main toon (being relegated to my alt now) is a fencer, I constantly buy synthsteak, pikatta pie, etc... and I think those will be the key to any upper hand in combat, regardless of wether or not they are nerfed as well. New specials have been added and no real information on defense/offense modifiers just yet either.
So I would say hang in there. You have a great reputation on Valcyn, and I know the community would hate to see you go.

You can't be a Chef on TC before the Blue Frogs - there are no elite trainers.
