Thread: Hot Fix: Practice EXP fixed.
Now it gives 5% like it was supposed to vs. 25% ![]()
Seriously I am happy about this...yesterday I was gaining exp MUCH faster then normal. I just wanted to post a non-whine, non-flame post about this fix that will be called a 'nerf' by the comunity. LOL.
I think it is good, 5% is enough, anymore means we will have hundreds of Master Chefs running around...
...and 1/2 the appeal of chef is that your one of a few in your galaxy!
(That and I like a chalenge.)
Go ahead and flame/disagree...but I feel since the bonus to exp for practice was an add-on to the original structure, this is not a nerf. Hell anyone who got used to a whoping 2 days of the practice option needs to play less! ![]()
so what you are saying is its good that chefs earn less exp on a scale from other professions because you know it will irritate people enough to stay away from the profession so you can feel excited to be one of the elite who doesnt mind slamming wastril bread for no reason.
i play games. i play a lot of games. i dont care what you do in life if you spend more than 6 hours a day on entertainment, and thats what games are then that is a problem. at times i do and i admit it is destructive to my life and the people around me.
the design of mmo's currently reward those that play with addiction and punish those that play casual.
shadowbane is a crappy game but it was the first to reward the casual gamer and its too bad others havent followed suit.
i would be happy if games like this made two server types. one in which people gained exp quickly and another slowly so both could be satisfied. this however does not solve the problem of endgame. if there is no endgame then it wont matter how fast or slow advancement is. currently star wars does not have an endgame.
or a game in which advancement was slow but every move you made had a purpose other than grinding through repetitive combat and crafting tasks.
while i agree with what holo said about swg being what you make of it its clear they are missing the content to do this.
Well, I have twocomments:
First of all, I thought that the "practice" option in and of itself was a TERRIBLE idea. Giving more xp for grinding? It's like they're condoning it, and I HATE the thought of grinding. I mean, in rl, how many people are going to make a product and use resources and then just destroy it? That's just silly. Same with this game. I think grinding makes the game bad, not good. So I agree that it's a good thing that they reduced the xp.
Secondly, as for the comment at the end about gaming being bad for your life ... **edit**? No, seriously. All summer, I've been playing this game. I go to work, I come home, I play. I do some other things, because I do have outside interests, but ... mostly I play SWG.
And what's wrong with that? During the school year, I work two jobs and I am a fifth year student in Physics. I don't have time to breathe, let alone play two minutes of a computer game. So what's wrong with me using my excessive free time this summer to play this game almost non-stop? It's not "destructive" in any manner. When fall hits, I'm not going to play this game anymore. My social life isn't suffering; when my friends get antsy with me, we go out to the bars or sit around and watch stupid movies. So how is it an "addiction"?
People who say things like that have this "holier than thou" attitude that I just don't like. Why is whatever YOUR hobby is better than MY hobby simply because you've branded it so? What would YOU consider an acceptable hobby? Just because I enjoy this game and play it a lot doesn't mean people can scoff at me.

Gotta love the flamers!! ![]()
Nope...not what I ment. Sure I like the fact we are rare...and sure I like the fact that only chefs who are not impacient power-gamers will hit master...but my main concern is that the boost to exp was TOO high.
Which it was...
I am not grinding anymore. Yes the inital grind with Wastril bread to the Tier 1 skills is pretty manditory, but after that I now have enough foods with Entrees I and they offer enough EXP that I can focus on crafting foods with diferent expermintations and ingredients and ignore the exp since it will come anyhow.
In other words I can be a chef...play the game and have fun, and then one day I just get enough exp for Deserts I, or Mixology I, or Expermintation I, or Entrees II...
Sure I like the fact that the whiners will quit our profesion and go onto another one, but that is not me reason for likeing this fix. I like it becuase it is needed, end of subject.
Oh and keep in mind...it IS a FIX...and it effects ALL CRAFTERS not just us. ![]()

I agree that the whole process sorta condones grinding, but I do see where they are comming from.
See now I only practice if I seriously BOTCH a recipe. And that makes sence to me since I cook a lot in real life and I learn a little more from my mistakes then from my meals that actually turn out right.
See what I mean?
Oh and who said the game was bad for your life? If your reffering to my comment that you need to play less I was just trying to make a point that this 'change' is a change to a change that JUST went in about 48 hours back...so therefor if your upset by it you must be used to it which means you must have played for the last 48 hours straight...
...and you WOULD need to play less! ![]()
Personaly I play this game all the time, and my wife is cool with it...and when I have RL things to do I do em! No hard feelings.
I'm torn on this. I'm a novice chef so in reality while practacing with Wastril Bread I was finally almost hitting the 2xp per resource that everything is supposed to be based off of so I was happy. Now though I'm back to the craptacular rate of 1.56 xp per resource which is crazy low in this game. Everything is supposed to be 2xp if not more. You want to know the difference between the xp per resource on that now compared to the 2 xp per resource rate? 100 serving of beautiful Wastril Bread. ![]()
Now that I am working towards the Chef profession I was, truthfully, a little upset when I first saw the note about the practice exp come up. Honestly though, 25% was too much. I don't think 5% is really enough, but when you are going to destroy the items anyways, the 5% extra experience begins looking pretty appealing. I really think something like 10% would be perfect. That would add up and be more noticable, but not over-powering, allowing players in the crafting professions to run rampant with their "Master," titles too soon. With 10% I would basically practice on everything. With 5% I have to question myself before I click on "practice." I doubt I'll use practice that often when I hit Novice Chef. Right now, I'm not crafting all food items and I'm practicing on things I won't need or sell. Food is always handy though (even if it gets annoying)I seepractice as more of a benefit to Tailors and Droid Engineers. Those professions won't be able to sell or use any of their low level stuff, but when they get to master, they will be selling items alot more! Chefs on the other hand don't really have anything that great to offer when they hit master. Alot of the good items come much lower.
I think that's why they did it also. Look how the DB for Starsider got hammered constintly. They had to do something.
I like the 25% just because it put the xp per resource more inline with the other proffessions which get 2 xp per resource.
lol ya i know i am only novice chef right now but i crafted for about 30 minutes and got 8k xp

I unfortuantly missed the 25% practicing ![]()
Well 400 more wastril breads and I wonder how on earth am I going to get 14k of wheat now that there is none in my general area after the reasorce change.
